WHAT SORT OF PASS TO GET

Hello all

We Are a family of 4 adults travelling from Strasbourg to Rome eventually.

We will travel 22nd December to to Lucerne , 25 th to Grindelwald, 29 to Zermatt , then 2 January to Pontresina via The Glacier Express (yet to book)and then the 4th on The Bernina Express (yet to book) to Tirano and then to Rome via Milan.

What sort of pass do I need and how to book the 2 express trains please?

Count up how many days you will be travelling. It looks like 5 or 6 days to me? So you’ll need either a Global Pass 5 days in 1 month, or Global Pass 7 days in 1 month. (There is no 6 day option)

You don’t need a reservation on the Bernina Express unless you travel in the panoramic cars. The regular cars, and the regional trains on the same route, all have very big windows and are of good quality.

Good advice about the Glacier Express and how to reserve here:

Again, you can travel on regional trains along the same route if you prefer not to pay the reservation fee. Expect it to be busier than usual around New Year

You’ll also need a reservation on the Milan to Rome train; these are very easy to get, though again, around New Year you might want to book ahead of time.

You might also have a look into combining some saver fare tickets with a shorter global pass, or maybe it could be intersting to get the parts into switzerland and out of switzerland as saver fare ticket, and combine it with a one country pass for Switzerland. I propose you to check the variants, calculate the total cost, and decide among that data.
