Hello everyone! I am currently planning an interrail trip for my family (2 adults and a then 9 year old and 4 year old) for next summer. We will have maximum of 23 days leave to travel.I originally looked at a global pass but I think given the age of my youngest a slower travel pace may be more preferable - we are currently considering a 3 or 4 day pass in Germany including a week in the south with a hire car to do some gentle hikes. One of the things my kids are obsessed with at the moment (aren’t we all?) is night trains and I was hoping to let them experience one for the first time. I’m trying to understand from the language used on the site if I can use the fourth travel day for a night train out of Germany (would be well within the 1 month as only have 23 days to travel). I was looking at either Munich to Rome, Stuttgart to Venice, Hamburg to Vienna, Berlin to Vienna or Berlin to Paris. Hi,I read on a blog that tram and bus transport on Switzerland is free via your hotel if you make them aware you have Eurail pass. I cannot find solid proof of that , and if it is all hotels - could anyone who's done such a thing confirm please? Is it only certain hotels , or are there various ways to get free or reduced public transport (other than the trains of course)Thanks

I do not consider myself as a “rail line collector” who celebrates with sparkling wine when traveling a special railway line the first time. (I have recently learned from a YouTube video that such guys exist.) But I had and still have a few lines which I want to travel on my bucket list. One of them was until 2025 the connection between Östersund in Sweden and Trondheim in Norway. The Norwegian part is called Meråkerbanen, since 2008 only until Hell where it joins the Nordlandsbanen. Before 2008 officially the end of the Meråkerbanen was Trondheim and the Nordlandsbanen branched off in Hell.My wish to travel this line goes back to my first trip to Scandinavia 1978 with an Interrail pass together with friends. We had the plan to take SJ intercity train 96 to Gällivare after our one-week stay in Luleå. Then stay there overnight in Gälivare and travel by the Inlandsbanan tourist train south to Östersund next day. Train 96 with a departure time in Luleå at 10:40 appeared very convenient for us. Enough time to vacate the holiday home, park the rental car at the train station and drop the key at the reception of a nearby hotel. We booked the holiday home with AirBnB and reserved the car for the duration of our stay in Luleå ending on Aug. 13th, 2025 well in advance. I had not looked carefully enough on the timetable. Train 96 would run daily in August with one exception: the 13th. Fortunately there was one more train on this day, Vy Norrtåg service 7154, departure time 16:47. As we would have to return the car at noontime we would need to hang around in Luleå for about 5 hours with our luggage. I’m booking from Bruge to Strasbourg and on the Time Table, I see 3 options for Strasbourg.  I want to go to the main station because it is very close to my hotel.  Do I choose “Strasbourg (France)” or something else?  I”m new to the pass and timetable.

If you use any rail travel planner to find a route from Wien (Vienna) to Sweden the result is: Go to Hamburg in Germany first. Then enter Denmark at Padborg, cross the Storebælt and take in København a train, which takes you across the Öresund to Sweden. GPS shows me the geographic longitude at home is 16,39° East. A straight (in spherical geometry) line north at this longitude traverses the Czech Republic, meets the Baltic Sea in Poland, touches Öland Island and hits the Swedish mainland in Kalmar län (county), somewhat north of Kalmar. With reasonable deviations of about ±200km railways and the Baltic Sea ferry from Gdynia to Karlskrona follow this line. So this is definitely the shortest route from Wien to Sweden. In Linköping, our first destination in Sweden where we stayed overnight, we spent two nights in a hotel and headed the next day to Stockholm. The train we used was a SJ high speed train for which seat reservation was compulsory for Interrail/Eurail pass users. As we had used paper passes we could not make the seat reservation on SJ website or SJ app as pass users can only make seat reservation with a mobile pass electronically. Paper pass users can buy it by telephone, probably in person at a few stations or have to find some third-party website. This can be interrail.eu/eurail.com where a € 2,- booking charge was added on top of the reservation fee of SEK 65,- (approximately € 6,-) for a seat in a high-speed train. In the meantime the reservation fees of SJ were changed. We found out the SJ reservations can be bought on the website and app of Vy, the successor of the Norwegian State Railways which is also a train operator in Sweden under the brand Vy Norrtåg. I'm planning a trip for 2,5 weeks and I got my route figured out for the most part. My idea was to see some cities I've never seen, enjoy it while having a route that makes sense and doesn't have very long travel days.I could get the 5 day pass and take a sleeper train home from Budapest but that doesn't appeal to me very much. This is our first trip to Europe and the first for train travel.  We would like to see the most scenic route and are in no particular hurry.  We have a Eurail pass.

Hı im sümeyra. İm 33 years old. İm studying at horse bacak riding. I will go to hungary on 1 august from turkey. I want to learn how train baggage weight policy.  So, how much weight can I take on the way there or back? Are there any restrictions on trains regarding this? I'll probably take one large suitcase and a 40-liter backpack on the way there, but I might take more on the way back.  Also, regarding train routes, there's a train from Türkiye to Bucharest that I'll be taking, and from Bucharest there's a train to Budapest. However, my destination in Hungary is Gyor. If there are any friends who live in Hungary and use trains, or who use trains on routes in that region, I would appreciate their comments.

Hello! I will be staying with my family of 4 in Interlaken this July. We will all have an Interrail pass (1st). I’m sure I read before about passes being used to get boat trips Lake Thun and Interlaken. Does anyone know if this is the case and if you need to book in advance or how you go about this? Hello,i wanted to post about some of the train museum i visited on my travels. France:Mullhouse Cité du Train Great train museum. Another museum nearby nearby which is also woth a visit is the Musée Electropolis (a combined ticket for both museums is available)Austria:Eisenbahnmuseum Strasshof “Das Heizhaus”. I recommend to visit this museum on one of the event days. (Dampftag, etc.). The museum can be reached by train from Vienna. Eisenbahnmuseum Schwechat: small train museum, easy to reach from vienna. But in my opinion not that interesting. I would recommend the Eisenbahnmuseum Strasshof “Das Heizhaus” over this one.Germany:DB-Museum Nürnberg: Great big Museum close to the main train station of Nürnberg.DB-Museum Koblenz: This one i recommend doing on one of the days where there is an event.Bayerisches Eisenbahmuseum: Lot of steam trains. Best time to visit is on a day where there is an event or some of them are running.Slovakia:There is an outdoor display of old trains near Bratisl

Hi everyone!In a few days I would like to cross the border between Sweden and Finland through Haparanda-Tornio. I have read on the Interrail website that this cannot be done by train therefore there is a bus connection included in the pass. I don't know if this is due to covid but it seems there is no bus crossing the border for the moment.On Maps it seems like the distance between Haparanda and Tornio train stations is about 1 hour walking distance. I don't mind doing that but I would like to be sure it is possible and my only option to join Finland up north.Has anyone done that recently and could help? :)Thanks in advance!Laura
