Hello. Can anyone please advise on the best things to do in San Sebastian? We arriving from Bilbao today and tomorrow taking the domestic train to Hendaye, France.

Hi everyone,Three friends and I are planning to do an Interrail trip this August and we’re thinking about buying the Interrail Global Pass (10 travel days within 2 months, 2nd class). We’d like some advice on whether our route sounds realistic and well planned.Our idea is to fly from Spain to Paris and then travel by train to Amsterdam, Berlin, Wroclaw, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava. From Bratislava we would fly back to Spain, as flights from there seem to be cheaper for us.We’re young and trying to keep costs relatively low. At the moment, we’re planning to stay around 2 nights in each city, and the whole trip would last about 15–16 days in total.It’s our first Interrail trip, so we’re still new to all of this. We’re a bit unsure about reservations and travel times between cities, especially in August. We’re currently looking at accommodation options on Booking and Airbnb, and any tips on how to keep costs down would be really appreciated.Do you think this itinerary is realisti

Compared to Sinsheim its less about a cars and more about planes, trains, and other stuff. It has the Russian Space Shuttle Buran, a submarine (U9) you can go inside (Sinsheim also recently got a submarine) a big Antonov An-22 Cargo plane, a Boeing 747. The Museum also an IMAx dome cinema (absolutly worth it if you understand German, still impressive otherwise)Technikmuseum Sinsheim:More focused on cars but then Speyer, but also trains and planes. Hey!I have just received my first passport of my adult life and I wanna go interrailing during summer (end of June onwards).I am travelling on my own and would like to go away for around 2 weeks. Im interested in staying in 1 place for 2 or 3days max at a time and would like to hit as many countries as possible. I like the sound of travelling through southern Europe and I'm hoping some experienced travellers could help me out with suggested destinations.Thanks 😀 Linsey ☺️  

I am looking to plan a surprise trip for my parents who would be visiting me in April in the Netherlands for about 20 days. I am looking for a EUrail pass based plan which would help me cover major destinations in Schengen area like Paris, Italy, Germany etc., I was also thinking to check as many countries as possible for them as well(but then quality matters too, as Swiss might take more days or Germany might also take 2 days). So I am looking for a 12 to 14 days plan which would start and end in Netherlands leveraging the Eurail pass. I have a plethora of questions related to Eurail pass as well, like whether can I be using them for the intercity commute as well(example Hague to Amsterdam to Leiden etc.,), would I be needing to pay additional costs other than the price for the pass itself(yes I have heard seat reservations are needed at times, may be mention them if you are helping me with a plan). Please help me, as I am rookie at surprises in general.

Triberg, Germany:Schwarzwaldbahn-Erlebnispfad, Starting from the station this short hike(6,5km) has some information on the construction of the blackforest railway and some lookout points. Hi everyone! 👋 Our group is planning a trip to Slovakia and would love to hear from locals in the community. The idea is to spend some time in Bratislava, Štrbské Pleso, Tatranská Lomnica, and Liptovský Mikuláš. While we have some skiing and hiking days planned, we'd love to step into locals' shoes, get off the beaten track, and experience the things that you enjoy the most. If you live in Slovakia (or nearby), what would you do on such a trip? It could be anything - places to eat or enjoy a coffee, the loveliest streets to stroll along, or the best spots to experience local life. Is there something we should try or definitely not miss?

We are planning a trip in 2024 (end of May to beginning of June) and this will be our first time visiting Europe so I’m quite a newbie when it comes to planning. I know the train schedules aren’t all out for that period of time however I have been basing myself off of March dates hoping it does not vary too much when the time comes. However, I have noticed you can only get trains to and from the Dolomites on Saturdays… is that always the case? I was hoping to only spend 3 days in the Italian alps not a full week… is this a possibility? Ideally we would be coming from lake como and then departing the alps to go to Switzerland.

Hey everybody!I am currently planning my first interrail-adventure.The Plan: Starting off in germany I intend to travel to Bari and take the ferry to Patras from there. After some days in Athina I want to travel up to Thessaloniki and beyond to start my Balkan Tour. However, since there is no international trains running (atleast until next year) I need to cross the border in another way. I am trying to spend the fewest money possible. I have seen that theoretically there should be a train from thessaloniki to Alexandroupoli or Ormenio. From Ormenio I would try to cross the border to slivengrad and take a train to sofia from there. Does anyone have Advice on the best ways to cross the border there? Is there perhaps a crossborder bus? Can one walk? Just hitchhike? Or is another border crossing easier? Afterwards my plan is to travel to the Black sea, then to Bucuresti, Brasov, Beograd and Budapest. Any other general advice on this is highly appreciated :) 

So what your favourite country to travel with an interrail pass.I personally am a big fan travelling trough switzerland with an interrail pass. My reasons are:No mandatory reservation (except for a couple scenic trains, but there are also reservation free trains on the same routes) Many places can be reached directly by train. Lots of hikes that start directly at train stations Many scenic trains (Rhätisch Bahn, Centovalli, Zermatt) And i just love the mountains. Also some ferries(Interlaken) and one cable car(Lauterbrunnen->Grütschalp) are included Great youth hostels (i have stayed at Interlaken, Davos, Zürich, Luzern and Zermatt so far) (most places speak german so thats also a plus for me since i come from Germany) Reliable trains I am happy to hear your places and reasons.

Since travelling in one day from Hamburg to Salamanca seems impossible, I thought about going via Paris and spending a night there. But maybe some of you have other suggestions for a good route? Is no plan the best plan?In June 1987, myself and two good friends finished our end of school exams and headed off for a month on the rails with nothing but interrail passes, passports, a small amount of money in many different currencies and a large amount of enthusiasm.We only had the very barest outline of a plan. We would start in Dublin. We would go to a Greek island called Spetses. Since we all lived in Dublin and very much hoped to be starting university in September we were always going to finish up back in Ireland.We also brought with us the single most important book to bring on an interrail – the Thomas Cook European Timetable. This little red piece of excellence was invaluable when it came to planning as it showed all the trains and connections you could ever need. It was printed monthly at the time and could be bought at bigger mainline stations or serious travel agents in most big cities. Two young people want to travel from Belgium to Malmö as fast as possible. We want to buy an interrail pass and want to take the SJ of Snalltaget from Hamburg to Malmö on the 17th or 18th of July. The nighttrain is not offering rides in that week. The daytrain should be riding from May. Is it sure that this train will be operating at these dates? Where can I find more information about that?Are there other and faster ways to travel from Belgium to Sweden?

Part 2: The scenic and easy Trip North to South 2025Other than the hard-core rail enthusiast trip described in Part 1 we would recommend this route to users of an Interrail or Eurail pass intending to travel Austria, Slovenia and Italy. The most scenic sections are the Simmering mountain pass in Austria and the Bohinj line in Slovenia. I'm currently planning a trip to Narvik, and was hoping to make use of the direct sleeper train NT94 from Stockholm. I'm trying to book for the 24th July 2026, however I can't seem to see it - on the SJ website it only shows a route involving a change at Boden. The first leg from Stockholm to Boden still shows as train 94, but there's no option to book all the way to Narvik. Anyone know if the direct train is still bookable for then?

Our family is looking at taking 7-10 day trip to Europe to celebrate my 50th Birthday. We’d love to travel at our own pace and love “living like a local”. We’ve rented a car and driven through Bavaria (loved it) and over to Salzburg. Looking for suggestions to do a rail trip or another rental car road trip that takes us through Switzerland, more of Austria, or places like Prague, Slovenia, Poland etc.

I have been taking photos of trains in France and its neighboring countries for several years now.I entered the Disvover EU Spring 2025 lottery and won a pass. I would like to travel to a European country in July 2026 where I can indulge in railway photography. I like taking pictures of “old trains” (I'm talking here about old trains in commercial operation, which would be relatively rare and impressive for a Western European like me) possibly on small lines or on lines offering breathtaking scenery.I like northern countries (Scandinavia, the Baltic states, ...). Above all, I would like to get away from it all and discover a country that is completely different from France (so why not Eastern Europe, such as Poland, Hungary, Romania, etc.)? Finally, I'm not a big fan of big cities and overly touristy destinations.Could you give

My friend and I are planning to interrail this May/June with a 5 day pass.For the first day, we want to get as far east as possible taking advantage of a night train if we can.I looked at one that heads towards Prague, but am I correct in thinking there is an issue with part of the route being a bus replacement?This is just our second year interrailing, so still pretty novice.Can anyone suggest a route, using a night train, that will take us to somewhere interesting.We went to Naples last year, via Geneva, and back via Colmar (which was pretty, but a bit sterile and dull) and Paris.We are considering at some point arriving in Slovenia, as we have been told it is a stunning unspoilt country.  Also taking the Eurostar to either Brussels or Amsterdam, rather than Paris.  We would prefer to minimise reservation fees (I know the night train isnt cheap, but we can offset it against accommodation fees, and saving an Interrail day) and night train is a bucket list thing…Any suggestions would b

Hello, I am planning my first interrailing trip and I would like to go through Germany and Austria as I have never been to those countries before. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding cities to visit. Ideally, I would like to go to Berlin and Vienna, as they seem the most interesting. Does anyone have any other ideas? Also, I would like recommendations regarding accommodation, public transport etc.  I look forward to hearing from you. 

I am planning to travel for roughly 2 weeks through switzerland and italy with a friend. We have purchased a 10 day in 2 months global pass for that trip. We plan to travel at the beginning of October.For Switzerland i mostly have enough ideas. But for Italy i could use some more ideas. Coming from switzerland by train, we will start from Milano.At the moment i am planning with the following destinations for italy:Neapel (already have plans what to do there) Palermo Siracusa or Catania (already have some plans on what to do there) Rome Between Rome and Milano i plan to travel on the west coast of italy and between Neapel (Maybe Bari) and Milano i plan to travel on the east coast of italy. Hello!!!I am planning an Interrail trip for my partner and me and I would like some help with ideas.I want to leave from Barcelona, so I need a possible round-trip route that would be the most convenient. I’ve thought about a route from Spain to Italy, although I would also like one through Northern Europe or Central Europe. This is my first time planning an Interrail trip and I don’t have many ideas. If you could help me, I would be very grateful :)I’ve thought about the following: Barcelona - Turin - Milan - Venice - Bologna - Genoa - Barcelona.But I’m willing to change, add, or do whatever is needed. My best friend and I would like to travel Europe. I like the cultural aspect more and she prioritizes nature and beautiful landscapes. We would like to mash best of both worlds. How long we’ll go isn’t sure yet, due to different reasons. But we’re planning for a two, max. three week trip. For now we had this route in our heads: Berlin, Vienna, Budapest, the lake of Bled, Triglav National Park, Ljubljana, Innsbruck and Munich. With following details: Nighttrain from Berlin to Vienna  Daytrip in Vienna, so we can travel on to Budapest later that night.  Berlin 2 nights, Vienna daytrip, Budapest 2 nights, Bled + Triglav + Ljubljana = 5 nights for all of these, Innsbruck 2 nights, Munich 2 nights.  We were also considering some place in Italy or Croatia. This is our first time interrailing so suggestions, alternatives, ideas, change of itinerary, … literally everthing’s welcome. Hi everyone, I’m planning to head out in May and I’m looking for Interrail tips. I don’t really have a clear plan for the trip yet. The only ideas I have so far are Milan, the Dolomites, some Alpine regions and Austria along the way. I’d really like to visit national parks, mountains and valleys, but I have almost no idea how to put everything together.I’ve been thinking about bringing a tent and sleeping bag, but my first choice would be hostels. I’m open to ideas though. If you could share advice, I’d love: Options without camping – hostels, hotels, Airbnb If camping – best campsites or areas for pitching a tent What are the best national parks to visit around the Alps, Northern Italy, and Austria?What are the best ways to reach viewpoints or mountaintops easily and safely, especially without a car?And any general advice for someone who’s starting this trip with very little idea of the route would be super helpful.

I see a few people have done this trip before, but there wasn’t a lot of information that I could find out about it before my trip, so I thought I’d write a trip report here.Essentially, it’s a scenic detour off the main line between Oslo-Bergen (the Bergensbana) that takes you down a mountain railway (the Flåmsbana), across the stunning Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord by ferry, and back up to Voss by bus to rejoin the train line.It can be done in a day in either direction. You can even return to Oslo or Bergen the same day by sleeper train. But it’s worth a stopover too, en-route or in Bergen.Eurail/ Interrail pass covers travel on the main train line (reservations required), and a discount on the Flåmsbana.
