Hello community! I am Emma, from Italy and I’m planning my first Interrail journey.I would like to know every possible information since it is my first and solo trip!I’m planning to do this itinerary: (16 August, flight from home to) Berlin - Warsaw - Prague - Budapest - Sarajevo - Split (3 September, flight home) / planning to spend 2 nights in Berlin - 3 nights in Warsaw - 4 nights in Prague and Budapest - 2 nights in Sarajevo and 3 nights in Split.First of all I’d like to know if it is a wise choice to visit these cities in this order, (or I need some more).Next I wondered how many travel days do I need (I was thinking about 5 days), and how does the pass for the trains work. But if I should know something else do not hesitate telling me! :)Thanks!
For many Railpassusers the Glacier and Berninaexpress are a must do when traveling arround Switzerland. Many use the fully air-conditioned “panorama trains”, some of which have very high reservation fees. The advantage of these trains is that they run directly and with a dinning service (pre booking recommened). The BerninaExpress in the spiral viaduct of BrusioBut @runner.on.rails (he provided the pictures for this post) and I prefer the normaltrains on these routes as you can open on many of them the windows (Better pictures as in the “Panoramic Trains” as these have no openable windows). Another advantage these trains goes every hour this means i can stop on the route when i just wanna enjoy the view. A good stop on the Route of the Glacier Express is Andermatt or the Oberalpass 🙂 for the Bernina Route i would suggest a stop in “Ospizio Bernina” or “Alp Grüm”. Don´t worry to miss a connecting train. In Switzerland trains are mosttimes ontime and wait even few minutes for eatch oth

It is understood that train trip from OSLO to BERGEN is very scenic. Please suggest a train trip (planned for April 2022) with train details from Oslo to Bergen to enjoy the scenic route.
Hi there!I can't find a topic about this, but what do you prefer? Summer or winter interrailing? What are the best places to go during summer/winter time or to avoid? And what are things you've to think about specifically for winter time?Best,Amanda
Hello Travellovers Many of you plan trips with places you known before or that are written in bold letters on the interrail map. This option is very efficient but, also very likely to miss some really nice places. Today I want to introduce you one hidden gem close to my domicile:The Rorschach Heiden BahnIt is located in the north east of Switzerland and starts directly from lake constance.view over lake constanceView down to Thal and Rheineck as seen from Wienacht-Tobel. From here you can also do a nice hike over the ridge “Steiniger Tisch” and along the river “alter Rhein” to Rheineck.Along the mentioned hiking route you can also find this quite view place where benches are installed. Just a few minutes from the station “Wienacht-Tobel”. View from “Steiniger Tisch”. Once per week they use old rolling stock. But the open carriages in summer are the highlight. There is also a nice viewing place with grilling possibilities called “Fünfländerblick”. It is reachable by a 2.2km hike from
Hi.You saved money for a long time to do an Interrail/Eurail trip. Now you want to make the most of the pass. Some of the beautiful cities in Europe often have cities or towns that are just as worth seeing in their immediate vicinity.Few examples: (will add cities step by step)Berlin and Potsdam If you leave Berlin in the south west you will explore Potsdam a small city with it´s own history and touristic sights. For example Cecilienhof Palace (Here took the Potsdam Conference place), Glienicker Brücke (Bridge of Spies) this bridge was used for several exchange of catched spies and pilots between USA and Soviet Union back in the cold war era. Ontop you can explore the dutch quarter of Potsdam or ofcourse one of the most famous places Sanssoci Palace and Park. For families could be the “Moviepark Babelsberg” a destination. Many movies and series were produced here and ofcourse in the area arround. (for example Metropolis back in 1927, the Jason Bourne movies or Eddie the Eagle)How to ge
It looks as though the night train from San Sebastián to Lisbon is not going to run anymore. We need suggestions of the best rail route please.
Pioneer (how they call them in the former Eastern Bloc) or Children´s Railway are a unique adventure for families especially in countries of the former “Eastern Bloc”. Here operate kids a railway for everyone for leisure. (There is always an adult that overwatch the operations and the drivers are mostly adults aswell). These pioneer railways were used to engage childs for a Worklife in the Transportation sector. Many of these railways still survived. The most famous one is the Railway in Budapest with a 11kilometers long line. Other cities with such railways are Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig, Chemnitz, Gera, Cottbus, Görlitz, Plauen(electrified) all Germany, Kosice (Slovakia). There are even more especially in Russia. I prefer Berlin (as iam living here), Budapest and Dresden. Here a picture from the Childrens Railway in BudapestMany Childrens railway have steamengines and use them often on weekends and special events here a picture from Dresden (Germany)And here a steamtrain from the Childrens
On your way from Berlin to Prague your train will stop first in Dresden and afterwards in Bad Schandau (the last german stop). I second to stop atleast for few hours here. Bad Schandau and Saxon Switzerland offer some nice nature spots and even the railfan have something to explore. The main tourist attraction in Saxon Switzerland is ofcourse the Prebish Gate or the Bastei with a beautifull view on the valley of the River Elbe but i will show you my secret spot that is till yet not so crowded as the “Bastei” and the village Rathen. From Bad Schandau goes a tram that use pretty old Tramcars to the Lichtenhainer Waterfall from here it´s a short walk to the “Kuhstall” (cowhed). You work up to a hill and it can be exhausting but the view you will get worths the effort.the “Kuhstall” (cowshed)View from the Kuhstall on the NatureThanks to @runner.on.rails for the pictures. For me as fan of transportation like ofcourse the old tram from Bad Schandau to Lichtenhainer Waterfall. Another village
