Get ready to travel

Hi, I am trying to book seats from München to Bologna on 18th july 8.17, 1st class seats. I understand there is a Brenner pass included, and the seats in the italian connection used to be expensive. But the price is still 442 euro for 5 people.  Am I doing anything wrong, or is it this expensive this year? 

If my son purchases a 15 day global pass, can he use the trains any of the 15 days? 

Hello, I have a very imortant question. Me and my friend want to take trains from madrit to poland thru france, italy and few more. On most of the trains it says to reserve seats. Do i really have to do that? Its not very expensive but can add up quickly. Please let me know.

When I get to the part of paying for reserved seats from Basel to Lauterbrunnen or Bern to Geneva it says it can not.  It says “Sorry, something went wrongWe could not save your details. Please try again or contact Customer Service if this issue continues.”.  I do not know where to go for help.  Is there a person I can talk to?Thank you,Cari

I am struggling to find pass holder reservations for any EC train Italy-Switzerland via this site, or RailEurope, or OBB.  All will sell me a full fare, but no pass holder reservation.Specifically I am trying to book EC16 13:10 Milano Centrale - Zurich. on 20/07/26.  I have tried many other dates, even different months and all say (on interrail.eu) pass holder reservations may be sold out.  Is this likely, 3.5 months in advance?  (I have tried dates in May as a test, in case reservations have not opened yet, but get the same message).I know there is a local train option with a change in Lugano and may have to rely on that, but curious to know if others see the same, and insights on what is going on?Many thanks for your help

Hello everyone.  I’m a first time traveler to Europe and will be taking my family this summer.  We will be traveling by train between some of our destinations and I’m trying to figure out if getting an Eurail pass is 100% necessary.  I looked on the Eurail site and the 4-day travel pass ranges from $928 (2nd class) to $1178 (1st class) for a family of 4.   We will need to take a train between the following cities:Rome → Venice (round trip over 2 separate days)Zurich or Bern → Paris (1 day)Paris → London (1 day)My questions:Is it worth the amount of money for the pass for the month we will be in Europe? If I do not get the Eurail pass, will my overall spend be less?  What I mean by this is will the difference in purchasing the tickets without the Eurail pass be more cost effective? Are there any monetary advantages of buying a Eurail pass or is it more for convenience/flexibility?  Thank you very much! 

Hi all, while I’m a very loyal user of interrail passes, having used 10 or so in total in the past 10 years, I have trust issues when it comes to leaving my personal data with Eurail BV again, after it’s been put for sale on the dark web due to bad IT security at this company (especially since the data exposed in my case was linked to a pass I used back in 2023, while it clearly would have been good data protection practice to delete them after a year or so). So, I’m thinking about buying a paper pass for my next trip. Some railway companies such as DB still sell them over the counter, and personal data (name, passport number, date of birth) is printed on the pass. My question is whether this data is being printed on the pass only, or also sent electronically by DB to Eurail BV and stored on the same servers as the mobile pass data. Does anyone have any insights to this?

To enter the lottery for the Interrailpass: My favorite route was from Vienna to Sicilly :). 

Starting from Amsterdam, passing through Heidelberg and Munich, and staying overnight in Salzburg was lovely. Watching the nature from the train from Hallstatt to Vienna was wonderful. We opted for the overnight train from Vienna to Bucharest. Our trip was tiring but also very enjoyable. I especially hope my next destination will be Rome, as I'm curious about its historical atmosphere.

My favorite train ride was the one in sri lanka going from kandy to haputale. Seeing the tea plantations and waterfalls through the open door was just amazing

My dream slow travel route would take me from Frankfurt all the way to Marseille.Starting in Germany and slowly making my way south by train feels like the perfect journey — watching the landscapes change from cityscapes to rolling countryside, and eventually to the Mediterranean coast.For me, traveling by train is not just about reaching a destination, but about everything that happens along the way. Going from Prague to Berlin, and need to take 3 trains, booked tickets for the first and third trains, but the second one said no ticket, “open seating”. However, I looked today 13MAR for the train on 18MAR and they replaced the second train with a replacement bus. Do I need to book tickets for that replacement bus or what do I need to do?

I am trying to reserve seats for the 15:35 IC 204 from Budapest-Deli to Zagreb Gl. Kol. on Friday 5 June 2026. I cannot book via interrail, and via CD and MAV I get the same message “The booking period for this reservation has not yet begun or has already expired.”Am I too early? I am 45 days in advance.

I recently traveled across Scandinavia using the Interrail 5-pass, and it was an unforgettable adventure. We started in Denmark, journeyed up through Sweden and Norway, and then returned to Sweden. The trains were top-notch—comfortable, fast, and stress-free. Unlike car travel, there was no worrying about fuel stops, road fines, or the hassle of driving—just sit back, enjoy the scenery, and let the train do the work. I can't recommend it enough—if you love seamless, scenic travel, Interrail is the way to go!

My favourite train route I’ve taken is the one from Basel to Zermatt! The train had lovely big windows, the view was breathtaking and my sister and I where the only ones in our compartment! (The only negative thing was that the only thing in my budget in Zermatt was a pretzel and some discounted food in the grocery store, but what can you do ;)

The best slow travel train journey, in my opinion, is the Glacier Express which operates in Switzerland. Interestingly, it’s one of the slowest trains in the world and that’s exactly what makes it special for me. Instead of rushing to get somewhere we can actually concentrate on enjoying the view, including the mountains, the valleys, and all those beautiful small villages.The slow travel is actually appealing for a lot more people due to the constant seek for new experiences. I’m certainly one of them, this kind of travel is indeed very appealing, since it’s not just about getting somewhere, it’s about the actual journey, which becomes the main purpose of the trip. I can just relax, enjoy the breathtaking views, listen to music, and forget about the rest of the world.Nowadays, people don’t have much time to just stop and try the “dolce far niente”, we are always in a hurry, so maybe The Glacier Express could be that for me, it’s definitely on my wishlist! 

Hi. I just learned that ticket for a dog for the train from Gliwice (Poland) to Wien (Austria) cost half a price of a normal human ticket and that is... A lot.Does anybody know if all international trains are like that? We want to go trough (Czech - only transit) Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and back ofc.Wanted to go with our 2 pups but if the fee will be the same in every international train, we will have to leave them behind. I just can't find that info.Please, let me know if you know, I will be VERY thankful.

I would like to do the Bernina express once more. I loved the scenery and still correspond with co-travellers I met on the route. Perhaps we could do it again together.

It's one of my dream! I'd love to leave from Oslo, then visit Stockholm, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Berlin, and Prague, and then return to Italy. I can't wait!

I would love to travel to Sweden or Norway by train; the scenery along the way must be magnificent. I've been dreaming of this trip for several years.
