Get ready to travel

This is a situation that I had last month. I had an Interrail ticket, and I planned to travel from Copenhagen (Denmark) to Geneva within a day. However, one of the trains from Denmark (DSB) was delayed which made me lose my connection, and eventually I arrived to Basel very late and there were no more trains to Geneva that day. I had to stay in a hotel in Basel (which I paid for) and continue the day after. I contacted DSB to ask for the reimbursement of the hotel (as it is their fault, their train was late), but they said that it should be SBB who pays, as the hotel was in Switzerland. I asked at a SBB station, and they have no idea about who should pay or what should be the procedure. They told me to fill in the passenger rights form on the SBB website, but it doesn’t work because it’s an international trip. In the international passenger rights from SBB it says that if I didn’t buy the ticket with SBB, I can’t fill in the form. Interrail states clearly that they do not take care of

Hi all, I was wondering how it works when I want to travel on a train for which I cannot book a seat though I am entailed to travel with. There is this EC from Bern to Domodossola which is covered by the Interrail pass but the Swiss railways do not allow for seat reservation. How does it work in such a case? Do I show up at the platform trying to board the train? What if the train is full? Is my trip guaranteed? Thanks to anybody who would be able to answer. Emanuele 

Hi everybody! I was born in 21 of december of 2005. I know I can apply for an interrail ticket now in october, but I want to travel with some friends who were born in 2006. Can I apply for the ticket next spring or do I need to participate in october?

First time Interrail user here, so please bear with me 😀Planning a travel from Germany to Northern Italy. I would like to take a 3h break at Brenner station while travelling with the Eurocity from Munich to Bologna via Brenner. I learned from Seat61 Austria interrail info that there’s a surcharge for pass holders. So if on the same day I take a 3h stop at Brenner and board the next EC do I have to pay the surcharge again?

Hi,this bug has been reported many times on the forum. It is marked “solved” everywhere. However, it is obviously not solved, since I fell into the trap only yesterday. Hence, I raise it again in the hope this will annoy the team enough to actually do something about it.The problem: If you book a trip back into your home country with a night train, which arrives the following day in your home country, the app will mark the departure day as your return trip. Hence, you have lost your inbound day without doing one minute or one mile of traveling in your home country.I know the answer in https://www.interrail.eu/en/interrail-passes/interrail-mobile-pass/mobile-pass-faq/how-can-i-travel-back-home-by-night-trainHowever, you are unlikely to find this answer, unless you actually fell into the trap. Hi there!I want to go from Aachen to Paris Nord on 5 November but the b-europe website no longer offers 2nd class seats. Is it possible to take a 1st class ticket even if I have a 2nd class pass? The website doesn't forbid me from doing this, but I'm more worried about the ticket inspectors if I'm not allowed to do

Hello everyone, and it's great that we can assist each other through this medium. I'm Gustavo from Chile, and I'll be travelling to Europe for a few days. Part of our journey will be by plane and some by train. We want to purchase the Global Pass for 5 days. On the first day, we plan to use it to travel from Amsterdam to visit The Hague and Rotterdam in the Netherlands. On the second day, we wish to go from Berlin to Brussels (Belgium), the third day from Brussels to Paris, the fourth day from Paris to Rome, and the fifth day from Rome to Milan. The issue I have is that my son will turn 12 years old while we're in Paris. So, for the last two days of using the Global Pass, he will be 12 years old. How can I manage this situation?

UPDATE: Customer Service came back to me - they know about the problem with the seat reservations and are working on it…Cross fingers that they manage to solve it quickly… Hello,I have just tried to do seat reservations on the interrail website (interrail.eu), but neither the starting point (Geneva) nor the destination (Paris or London) will show up. It seems to be a problem on the website, as I tried different starting / end points and the only thing that happens is that the page reloads as a blank page. I tried different browsers, all having with the same effect.Has anyone encountered the same problem?Sibylle

Hi, maybe this is asked before, sorry.Is it possible to have the same function like in the app to see al your train travels? I can't find it.Also, is it possible to download al the travels from a railpass in a .pdf overview or Excel?Tnx :)

Hi all. Thank God for this community, we almost finished on planning and reserving our first family eurail trip. We plan to travel from Interlaken Ost to Zurich on November 15th via Luzern with the Panoramic Express (PE) 0904am. However, Railplanner, SBB and OEBB showed that there is no direct PE train to Luzern on our travel date. The train will stop at Meiringen, and we must take replacement bus from there to Giswil, and board the train again from Giswil to Zurich. We checked on SBB website, this is due to:“Interrupted service Giswil - MeiringenInterrupted rail services between Giswil and Meiringen.This is due to engineering work.” My questions are:Would be it be worth it to choose this PE2919, which require us to take bus half way? Do we need to make or pay another reservation for the bus? Then the PE2919 from Giswil to Luzern, do we need to make and pay another reservation?We really want to try Panoramic Express, but  we wonder if we took the PE, we won’t be relaxed to enjoy the sc

Hi everyone, I’m new here, I’m a music student from Uruguay looking for some advice for my upcoming trip.I’ll stay about a week in Croatia and a week in Germany, and maybe a few days in Austria and Czech Republic. I’m trying to understand what kind of pass or card would be the best option, and I have a few questions:Does a Eurail Global Pass include local transport, for example inside one city or connecting smaller cities? When using the tripplaner map in eurail.com, the city of Freiberg is not recognized so I wonder if there’s no connection with that city included in the Pass. If the Global Pass includes local transportation, would you recommend getting it, considering that the majority of my train rides will be inside Germany and inside Croatia? Or would it be better to get a BahnCard and pay an extra when I travel between countries? Could I get a BahnCard and a 4day Global Pass, so that I use the BahnCard in Germany and the Pass for connections between different countries? Would you

Hi allWe travel from Paris to Interlaken Ost on November 13, based on Railplanner App and SNCB App, the earliest is to take TGV 9203 from Paris 0722am to Basel, then IC1069 Basel 11.28am to Interlaken Ost. We need to reach Interlaken Ost before 2pm as we have to take bus scheduled on 2.06pm to Iseltwald.Is there any other way to make reservation for TGV9203 other than from Railplanner? Also, Railplanner showed that we can make reservation for IC1069 although it’s not mandatory. But we thought Eurail pass holders didnt require to make payment for IC trains? A bit confused now  Another questions, found that reservation fee for THV9203 is high. Please show us other route that maybe cheaper? Sorry for long post and thanks in advance. 

US citizens (wife & I) planning on traveling to 4 locations in July 2024 (London-Paris, Paris-Zermatt, Zermatt-Brussels, Brussels-London).  I want to buy 1st class pass and reservations.  How accurate are the rates listed on the Eurail reservations that pop up?   My hope is to book all reservations through Eurail’s website/app. If I cannot pick seats, how do i insure we are seated together (and would like the facing seats)? When boarding a train that doesn’t require reservations, how do you know seats have not been reserved by someone? How does the 1st class and 2nd class noted on Eurail map to the Business class, Standard Premiere class, & Standard class I read about in the comments?

how do i add my pass to. the eurrail app? do i need to do that if i have rail planner? thanks 

I will be traveling by train in Spain mid-September through early-October. I bought my Eurail pass back in August.  I also made reservations for most of the trains I want to travel on using the Eurail website and printed out those tickets.  I can see those reservations in my account on my computer under “Reservations Overview.”I just downloaded the Eurail app to my phone and activated my pass.  I have some questions about the reservations I made.Do I need to add my reservations to the Eurail app or are the paper versions good enough?If it’s a good idea to have my reservations in the app, how do I add them?   When I set up a “Journey,” I select the train I’m going to take as an option and add it to my “Trip.”  How do I indicate that I already have a reservation?After I add a journey, I get a message that says, “To get ready to travel, tap to add this journey to your pass.”  What does that mean? I haven’t done that yet since I don’t have the reservations included. Thank you for your help

Hello all,My son and I have just successfully negotiated a trip combining our interrail pass and SNCF & Eurostar reservations to visit Nice in order to attend a match in the Rugby World Cup France 2023.The most pleasing element was the journey from Marseille to London St Pancras via Lille Europe which required reservations on the TGV & Eurostar but only used up one day in the pass.  The Eurostar journey back was one of the two journeys that the pass enables one to take form or back to one’s home country - in our case the UK.I am really grateful to all of those people who responded to our requests for explanation and information on how the card and its combination with reservations works; they made a huge difference. Thank you all very much.The app worked very well for us and we took and used printed copies of the reservations for TGV and Eurostar reservations.  I had the PDFs in my emails and would have been able to access then if necessary.Best wishes, John

I'm currently on the Trenitalia TPER 3910 from Ancona to Piacenza. You can find it on trenitalia.com and www.lefrecce.it websites, but not in the RailPlanner, DB (Deutsche Bahn) or Rome2Rio apps. This is crazy frustrating, and makes it so difficult to plan ahead. I got to know about this train at the Ancona train station, 2 minutes before departure, and I caught it 5 seconds before it left the platform. 

I chose a 7-day Global Eurail Pass, which is called “Budget” (other options were Economy and Premium, the latter lasting a month). I selected the upgrade to first-class. When I got to the Add to Cart screen and later screens, the text said “second class”, though the price remained at the first-class price.This is very confusing. I can’t tell what I am about to buy. Why is an option listed as first class only to change to second class? 

Hi all. Please help us to decide which train schedule is better for us as we travel with toddler. We plan to leave Brugge on 11th Nov around 9am. Previously we got suggestions from this community to take IC from Brugge to Kortrijk, Kortrijk to Lille Flandres, then take TGV from Lille Flandres to Paris, as it would be many available seats from Lille Flandres and reservation fees much cheaper  But so far we checked the schedule from Rail Planner App or Belgian Train website or SNCB app or DB Navigator app, these app show that we must take Brugge to Bruxelles Midi, then take Thalys from there to Paris. If we edit the options by putting via Kortrijk or via Lille Flandres, these apps keep pointing out that we must go to Bruxelles Midi to go to Paris, resulting 4 to 5 change of train. We prefer max 2 change of train and hope to reach Paris around 1 or 2pm.We are so confused now. Please advise. 

I confess I did not expect most of my trains to offer reservations only on paper. I only finalized my plans a couple of days ago and now am trying to reserve trains beginning about ten days from now. So I have not left enough time for paper reservations to be shipped to me here (US).My trip goes to five cites in five countries. I am only staying a few nights at each stop. It seems too risky to try and ship my paper reservations to my hotels - the timing is too tight. Any delays and I will miss the shipments.If I go to the carriers’ websites, some do not ask if I already have a Eurail pass, and want to charge me for the trip in addition to the reservation. So that doesn’t seem to be economical.Already I am seeing that some trains I was planning to take show no reservations remaining (on the Eurail planning site). But this may only mean that the Eurail website cannot determine availability.Once I arrive in Europe, is it possible to book seats for international trips (Denmark to Sweden, C
