Get ready to travel

Hi everyone,  My boyfriend and I are planning to Interrail using the one country pass, around Norway in May. We’ve booked accommodation and will be very soon buying our pass- it’s our first time Interrailing, I’m not sure if we’ve done it in the wrong order?!  I think I just about understand that seat reservations can be booked in advance, but not to activate your pass until you are ready to use it for a travel day. Can we activate the day before our first travel day?  My main concern at the minute is that lots of the trains are being replaced by rail replacement buses during our journey through Norway. However, I can’t see an option to reserve a seat on the bus. On a train, there's more room and would just stand if there wasn’t an option to reserve a seat, however I feel this isn’t really an option on a bus? Does anybody know how we’d go about making sure we are able to get a seat on the bus, if reservations aren’t available?  Thank you in advance, any help would be really appreciated

Greetings: It’s my first time booking inter-country trains and regional trains. I’m booking from Stockholm to Copenhagen and Eurail will take me from Stockholm Central to Malmo. I have that ticket paid for. Although the Malmo to Copenhagen leg appears, I cannot book It. How do I book the 2nd leg of my journey? Do I book it as I board or at the station? If so, on what website? Or do I have to book through a regional train-line on a different website? Please assume I know nothing when you answer. I won’t take it personally...LOL Too many words and a detailed explanation will be very useful for this firstt-timer.

So basically I was already booking the required seat reservations and I was able to book all of them, but not my Innsbruck Hbf - Wien Hbf train. It is the NJ 19947 Nightjet, from OBB. It is weird, because I have already booked other seats with this company and there’s no issue at all. Dates are all around the same week, so I don’t really understand why wouldn’t I be able to book these seats. I don’t see any support email in their website to ask… Thank you.

Hello, I going around Europe for the first time and I will be taking three trains between countries. Two of them recommended to purchase seats, so I did just to be safe. But one of them doesn’t have the option to. If I miss the train it will mess up the entire trip because we are going between different Airbnb's. How do I know that I will get a seat on the train if my spot isn’t reserved? Another question, for the reserved seats it says I may need to print the tickets. Is this true and likely? Or will I be safe with just having the ticket on my phone? Thanks!

Do larger train stations, in particular Santiago de Compostela have  Eurail help desks or counters?Especially the very first day of my Pass travels.I am terrified I won't be able to activate my pass and/or toggle my journeys to the day pass.

Hei, we have seniot interrail tickets. We fly to Palermo first. We cannot get seating places to train from Palermo to Salerno 1.5, time 10.15. How we can pay them and get our tickets to phone?

Hello, my goal is to travel from Stockholm to Narvik on July 18th. The only available route requires me to change trains at Boden. However, it seems to me that the night- train arriving at Boden splits into two, with one section continuing on to Narvik.So I have two questions:Will new direct trains be offered?If it’s not the case do I have to use two travel days for this journey?Thanks for your answer ! 

I’m wondering if there is any way to select specific seats using a Eurail pass on Trenitalia.  From everything I read online here, it’s not possible on Trenitalia’s website, Trenitalia Kiosks, Eurail, or even OBB.   My travel companion for an upcoming trip has never been to Europe before and I was really hoping I could select seats, rather than have them preassigned.  I’m wondering if we go to a Trenitalia agent at a station if they have flexibility of accommodating requests.   I’d prefer the one seat arrangements facing each other, but as long as we’re sitting together, that would be fine.  What I’m really hoping to prevent is being assigned in different cars or even in the same car not together.  Is there a way to see the assigned seats before finalizing a booking?  I’m fine with us sitting side-by-side, across from each other, window or aisle, etc.  Just don’t want us separated.   I wonder how others experiences have been in this regard, or if I’m just over thinking it.

Does anyone have any insight into what routes will be offered this summer, and when booking might open?I am trying to book for early July from Narvik (if it runs) or Boden to Stockholm. The website just shows track maintenance being planned, and no tickets yet. Although I note there are tickets for a few days later in the month. Is there any certainty there will be trains, even if a different route / schedule etc? 

Hello, I would like to ask if there is a possibility to book train cabin before starting the journey. How much does it cost for 5 people?

Hello! Bought a paper pass for reduced price already in the winter, planned to travel in spring. Now plans changed, planning to travel in the autumn.But, the site says i have to BUY a new pass, wait for refundng of the original passa + pay 25 euros for the exchange.SO, if I do not get the new pass for the same reduced price, why would I exchange it and pay the extra 25 euros? And why do I have to buy the pass and get the refund later, can you not transfer the money/price of the original pass for the purchase of a new one? 

We are a couple planning Interrail travel to France, Italy and Switzerland next month, and need to put our passes on our phone(s). Wondering about the advantages/disadvantages of putting both passes on one phone or on two separate phones. We will always travel together. With both on one phone we can duplicate our trip details; if they are on separate phones can we duplicate or will we have to enter all the journeys separately for each pass? The snag I can see of both on one phone is using it at automatic platform gates, one of us will have to pass the phone back to the second person. what are people’s experiences and thoughts, please?

Hi,I bought erasmus pass for 4 travel days in the next 6 months.I already booked the trip for this Sunday, but would like to refund it now. When I refund it, do I get the travel day back, or I lose that travel day? 

Hi,I’m preparing my 1st Eurail trip and I have a doubt about the correct way to proceed.I will go from France to Norway. I take the train until  Hirtshals (Denmark), then a boat from Hirtshals to Norway. I will then travel again by train in Myrdal (Norway) 5 days later. Into the Eurail scheduler I have created a step from Hirshals to Myrdal in order to have my complete travel in 1 Eurail trip, but I’m wondering whether this step will consume 1 travel day on my pass ? Please note that the boat has been already separately booked.

Hi!I’m intending to travel between Vienna and Venice with OBB, using a 1st class Interrail pass. Is it possible to book business class with an interrail pass, or can I only book 1st class?Additionally, is business class worth the extra money? It’s a 7 hour trip, so additional comfort would be nice, but idk if its worth the price

Hi guys, I won an interrail ticked from die EU! When I won it I signed up with my passport ID of course. However I had to get a new passport due to the fact that it lost its validity. Well, I still have my old passport with this old passport ID (but of course its not valid any longer). Do you guys think that everything will be fine if I just bring my old passport as well just to be sure that I can prove that the interrail pass is actually mine?Thank you for your help in advance Marie :)

Hi everyone, we’re in the process of planning our first Interrail trip this July. We plan to travel from Basel to Como on July 29th. Currently, on direct trains, I’m getting the following message on Rail Planner - No price results were found. Pass holder reservations may be sold out for this connection, but there are other ways to check for available seats—more info below our timetable.On Rail Europe, a lot of the connections are stating that the pass doesn’t apply, or applies for only part of the journey. Would it be easier to travel via regional trains which don’t require reservations, assuming these direct options are fully booked? I think we can travel via via Lugano or Chiasso without mandatory reservations.Any advice much appreciated. Thank you 

Hi fellow travelers, I am seeking your advise on a sleeper train situation. I want to travel from Penzance to London on 21/08/2026 and catch a Eurostar to Paris on the morning after.  Now, my problem is that you apparently cannot reserve a seat for the Night Riviera Sleeper from Penzance to London because it's "a counted place booking" which means that I "will be able to sit in any available seat while on board", according to the Great Western Railway Support. To make extra sure, I called them and asked and they were able to issue me a reservation that only says "Counted Place". When I asked, the lady on the phone confirmed, that I could be early at the station to catch a seat.I am quite anxious that I will arrive at the station and the train will be full and I would have no accommodation for the night and a Eurostar to catch in the morning. Especially because I am travelling in peak season. Is there anybody with experience on that particular train who could advise me the best way to e

Hi!We’re a familiy of four - two adults and 2 kids (0 and 2 years old).We’d like to make a reservation for a train from Mannheim, Germany to Paris, France. From what we understand, kids younger then 5 years old travel for free. However, when we try to book via the interrail website, the overall amount is supposed to be 88 Euros for all of us. Hello, my wife and I are flying into Munich and are catching a train to Slovenia the next day, mid-morning. Should we stay by airport to catch train in airport or is there a better train station away from airport with hotels nearby. Thanks. were in our upper sixties, and I have not used the train system since 1982.

My friend and I are both fairly new travelers and were told by a friend that Eurail would be a good option for us to travel in Europe this summer. We were able to book trains that don’t require seat reservations, but when we tried to book seats on the trains that do require reservations, we weren’t able to. On the eurail website, we got a message saying we need seat reservations to board but there wasn’t actually a way to make seat reservations. When we tried on a separate website affiliated with the trainline, we were unable to book seat reservations using the eurail global pass discount. Has anybody had this issue before or know how we can book our seats?

I am trying to plan a family rail trip across Europe for the summer of 2027 but can’t access the train schedules yet (understandably). When do you think they will be ready?Thanks
