Get ready to travel

Hello!  l have a little over 2 weeks to do some solo traveling in Europe from roughly July 15th - Aug 1st 2023. This is a spontaneous trip (like all of mine usually are). I've used the trains in northern Italy and Japan when tourism was very low. My concern on this trip is having issues with seat reservations. Id like to start in London take the PO ferry to France (from dover to calais) and then take a train to Paris, Lyons, Marseille, and end in Barcelona. I don't want to set my schedule in stone, and I may spend more days in certain cities depending on the circumstances. Is this route possible to do spontaneously or will the trains on these routes be completely booked in advance?Thanks for the suggestions,  Dan

My itinerary is as followsDusseldorf to Paris 29th Dec after 12 pmParis to Manchester UKManchester to London AMRome to Florence - Venice over 6days  mb use local trains Krakow to Munich onto Garmisch-PartenkirchenGarmisch-Partenkirchen back to DusseldorfOur time lines are pretty tight ,we need to connect to the Paris London train to get to Manchester and unsure if we should do the Manc - London on a trainKrakow to Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a big issue as we have literally days 12/13/14 to go from Krakow all the way to Dusseldorf which is proving problematicI would also like to know that to be able to book these in advance how can i do this without activating the EU rail passany suggestions 

I am planning to travel Stockholm to Trondheim on June 8th. but at present the Vy & Sj timetable show it is bus replacemet service from Duved-Stolien-Trondheim.Sockholm-Duved  Train 80Duved-Storlien Bus 571Storlien-Trondheim Bus 71The Interrail planner will only show the train part of the trip Stockholm-Duved. I can book a reservation for that OK.My question is how I can book reservation on the Bus replecement sections Duved-Storlien and Storlien-Trondheim?

How can I view and modify my seat once reservation was made and paid.  I need forward facing seats and prefer to sit two seats rather than three or four seats side by side.

Hello, the inbound and outbound journeys are indeed taken into account when purchasing the Interrail pass. Based on your itinerary of Paris to Milan (Italy); Milan to Bari (Italy); Bari to Patras (Greece); Patras to Milan; Milan to Paris, it appears that you would need a 5 days within 1 month pass or a 3 days within 1 month pass.

Hi all!Just a quick question, has anyone else noticed it’s not possible to reserve a seat on the Oslo-Bergen train? I tried reserving one on almost every day in August and September on the interrail website but I get a “ Prices unavailable” error on all the trains.But when I check the vy.no website there’s still plenty of seats available. Is calling the only option here? I prefer anything else because of the international calling charges.Thanks for any answers to this!!

I want to go from hamburg altona to copenhagen on 21st july (seat reservation required on interrail website).On interrail website seat reservations are not possible to make because of errors so i tried on DB website but i saw this type of error on db site:booking via www.bahn.de is not available for this connection. This is most often the case when it comes to regional trains, short distance trains or trains with a reservation obligation

Travelling to Paris to Berlin in September with wife. We have Eurail Global Pass ‘15 days in 2 months’.Reserved seats at Eurail. At time of reservation, I could only reserve the journey leg from Paris to Frankfurt but not Frankfurt to Berlin leg of journey. Change over at Frankfurt HBF is 20 minutes and that at Erfurt HBF is 27 minutes. Eurail charges €8 seat reservation fee per passenger for Frankfurt to Erfurt, and another €8 per passenger for Erfurt to Berlin. I understand European trains are not always on time. I read that if you have a single booking from point A to B, you missed a connection due to train delay you are able to catch the next train by just getting on the train. However, say if you bought the a ticket from Paris to Frankfurt with Eurail (my case Eurail got the reservations via Belgium National Rail) and Frankfurt to Berlin with another company (not Eurail or Belgium Rail) you have to pay for the Frankfurt to Berlin ticket agin.Questions:Is there enough time for chan

How can i make seat reservations in sweden without paying full price for normal ticket?I tried a promo code from generator and its nor working

I would like to travel from Frankfurt to Marseille on 04 July at 06:56. In the DB app I can find the following connection: 06:56 Frankfurt - 08:48 Strasbourg - 09:03 Strasbourg - 15:06 Marseille. However, the Interrail app only shows me a connection via Paris, where the train from Paris to Marseille is fully booked. The first train of the connection via Paris is the same as via Strasbourg (06:56 Frankfurt). The next connection to Marseille would not be until 19:00 in Marseille....Even if I take the train to Paris, there would be a couple of high-speed trains (TGV) that run later but are not displayed in the Interrail app. So my question is, can I use the connection via Strasbourg even if it is not shown in the app or reserve a seat for this connection? And if so, how do I add it to my trip in the app if the connection is not shown to me in the Interrail app?

Hi there, we are planning to take a trip around Europe in September and we were thinking of booking 6-berth sleepers. We are 6 adults and 1 child that is 4 years old. He can share a bed with his mom but I wanted to know if it is possible to book for all of us or if the child doesn’t have to book taking into account he is sharing the bed. We plan to take these trains:EN40465 - EuroNight from Zurich to Ljubljana EN476 - EuroNight from Budapest to KrakowOnline I’m not allowed to book for more than 6 pax and I wanted to know if I have to add the child to the reservation even though he will share the bed. can we use our europass to book a direct train from geneva to milan? or even the train route that makes one stop and goes from:Geneva ---Domodossolaand then Domodossola  to milan i see on eurorail website we can only book a train that makes two stops. do i need to call SBB to book the first one using europass? the SBB website does not let you enter the europass info. we are able to book the Domodossola to milan on eurorail website using the europass please advise and thank you so much for your help!

My July 4 Thalys train was cancelled from Brussels to Paris (Thalys sent me an email).  My eurail reservation shows booked with no issue or flag.  I already submitted a request for a seat reservation refund.  Do I just go ahead and book a new seat reservations right away? Or do I wait for someone get back to me regarding the refund/exchange.

I plan to go to Gstaad tomorrow (last day in Switzerland). The Rail Planner & SBB app is showing the Panoramic Express Train for my Journey from Montreux to Gstaad, while not mentioning 'mandatory' reservation. Moreover, the SBB app is also mentioning 'GoldenPass Panoramic' under the details.So I am getting confused that is it a regional train covered for free by my Eurail Pass or is it the the 'Golden Pass Express' requiring a 'reservation/booking? (By the way, I travelled on a Panoramic Express train from Breinz to Luzerne today)Moreover, I need following suggestions:1. Besides Gstaad, what other good places are there to make a stop-over & visit on this route/train?2. Other (nearby) good places, accessible by this or any other 'Panoramic Express' train?

We have booked several trains to go from France to the northern part of Finland via Sweden.It is indicated that the reservation are not mandatory (for example from Boden to Haparanda)..As we are travelling with our three children we would like to make sure that we can take these trains with our pass.Or is it preferable to make a reservation ?Thank youFranck

Hello we are currently stranded on train station, please help. Pass can’t be added. Error says: Your details don't matchYou can find the right last name and Pass number in your confirmation email. Make sure you have a mobile Pass and not a paper Pass. Already contacted eurail but they say reply is within 2 days we are already traveling T_TSo Pass cannot even be added, therefore not validated too. We are planning to do a lot of travelling, so this pass is absolutely needed and therefore we cannot move now. We bought 6 MOBILE passes, only 1 had this issue. We can assure that the details on last name and pass number is perfectly matched because we already use copy and paste over and over, and even used four mobile devices (iOS & Android) to try input the pass, the application is up to date. Please guide us on how to resolve this problem because when we go to the train’s local customer services here are extremely nonchalant, rude, and did not help at all. The issue is most likely from

Does anyone know if there’s a pass for someone traveling for more than 30 days but less than 60? I didn’t see anything.  And with the 15 or 22 days t itseems to be saying that it needs to be ‘straight’ travel days... like everyday which seems ludicrous! ...I’ve had a 2 month one before...but this year wont’ be starting train trips until 14th july...but leaving Euroipe end of August not Sept. 13.  my other question is about mobile pass and global pass. Same? I used touse the old paper type one in the past given SIM cards and WIFI  now I buy one...(sim card)  but wondered as I seem to hear different names for global pass too...cheerst.

Hello, I live in France and would like to buy a global pass (7 days). For the trains in France, I know that I can take train to go out during 1 day and same for coming back.  But I would like to know if it is possible to cross the border with another way (without the pass) and take the day after national trains (from France to France) ?  Thank you 

Hello, we are a group of 28 students. We would like to go from Zagreb to Split, on July 9. Since it is not possible to make seat reservations for trains in Croatia unless at the ticket office in Croatia, I was wondering if we could risk it to book seat reservations only the day before, on July 8, because that is the date we arrive in Croatia. We are a big group so I don’t know if that is a good idea?Or is it a better idea to go by bus from Zagreb to Split and already book the bus tickets now, so we have seats garranteed? Thanks in advance!Paulien  

Hey, I would like to know how exactly the ticket and travel days work.Can I use one ticket for several train journeys in one night?  how do I activate a trip that I previously saved under “my trip” in the interrail app? how can I let the app know that I made a seat reservation for a planned trip so that it’s shown in the ticket? is there a maximum number of trains I can use in the 24 hours after the activation of the pass?
