Get ready to travel

Hi all, I am looking into travelling to a few destinations around Europe with my family (potentially UK to Germany, Belgium and france and then back to UK) and visiting some of the cities Christmas markets, would getting the interail global pass over 7 days provide me with the passes we would need or would there be extra costs along the way? I have looked on the Eurostar website and the cost added quite quickly so am trying to work out the most efficient way to do this.

Hi My rail journey planner has stopped working when I am offline with no internet. It has always worked in the past.It does still wirk when online.Any thoughts please??

Hey, I’m new to the Interrail Pass and I’m a bit confused about night trains.If I’ve understood correctly, if a night train is direct, it only counts as one travel day — the day of departure. So I’ve been checking the night train maps to see which routes I could take overnight.For example, the Budapest–Prague EuroNight IC 575 shows up as a night train included in the pass. But when I check the timetable to make a reservation or just to look at it, it shows a route with several train changes.Is that because the timetable doesn’t show the direct train? How can I reserve it?Or is it because there actually aren’t any direct trains? Would that mean it uses up two Interrail travel days even though it’s listed as a single route?Thank you very much for your help,Vicky

Hello everyone!I need to go to Germany in the next day and I just found out my Germany pass could not be valid… I thought that would be the right one, since I’m going from home to Hamburg/Bremen… But looks like Trains from Slovenia are not valid for this pass?Do I have to buy another one? It is very urgent… THe departure is on Thursday! Please, someone help!Ilaria 

Genève-Cornavin to Interlaken Ost on Oct 29 with a 1st Class Eurail Pass. Is a seat reservation required on this route via Bern? Also wondering if there’s any advantage to reserving on SBB InterCity trains

Lyon → Geneva (Oct 28)Lyon Part-Dieu to Genève-Cornavin on Oct 28 with a 1st Class Eurail. Is it TGV Lyria that needs a reservation, or TER regional option with no reservation. Late morning or early afternoon travel. 

Dear All Community member,I have plan to visit Interlaken and Zermatt next December (exact date on December 24th, and December 25th) each trip take from Basel. I have seen the schedule on the eurail app, which state that seat reservation optional.I do not have experience to visit both places before during christmas holiday. May I ask your suggestion whether it is necessary to book seat reservation for both trip during christmas holiday? Thank you for your help.

Hi, We are getting a 15 day in 2 month pass for a family of 5, 48, 47, 18, 15 and 15. Just wondering peoples thoughts as to whether the 1st Class pass is worth it compared to the 2nd class pass (about 25% more expensive). Will be travelling through December and January

How far in advance can I book seats on TGV from Nice to Paris 

I’m trying to book Lyon Par Dieu to Torino Porta Susa on 3 September (having already paid/booked reservations from the UK to Lyon via Lille Europe since the whole journey from the UK to Turin was showing as bookable on the Interrail app) but there sees to be no way to reserve on the 17.20 Freccia Rossa (direction Milano)! I’ve found posts on here from 3 years ago saying Frecciaitalia trains to/from Paris are not part of the Interrail network and that many on here were pressuring trenitalia to change this. Is it possible now? Did you succeed?Since I’ve already booked the other reservations (Eurostart and snc from Lille to Lyon) , I now risk losing money if I can’t book the last leg of my journey (Lyon-Turin) 😯

We live in FranceWe have activated all of passes on my mobile travel start date 21:10/2025We start travelling tomorrow 21 October 2025 - 9:41 TER Nice St Augustin - Ventimiglia (no reservation required) 10:59 Ventimiglia - Milano Centrale (reservation required) 19:13 Milano P. garibaldi - Vienne (nightjet reservation required)Return 30/10/2025 19:18 Vienne - Milano P Garibaldi (nightjet reservation required)We have bought tickets through the Rail Planner for the trains where a reservation is required but BEFORE we created the trip on the mobile pass. We have tickets that we will print. I have now created a Trip and added these journeys. What do we do now? There’s a little sliding button showing next to each journey. Do we need to activate that to get the QR code for travel? Need a little bit of help getting started… Thanks 

I have already purchased my Eurail Global Pass, and it is linked to my Trip in the Rail Planner app. Also I made seat reservations for my train journeys using the ÖBB (Austrian Railways) app as I will be travelling during a busy time.  Now that I’m trying to add those trips to Rail Planner app, I noticed that these specific journeys do not appear in the search.I want to ensure that these reserved trips are still valid under my Eurail Pass, and that I won’t encounter any issues during ticket inspection.Could you please clarify: Is it acceptable to manually add journeys to the Rail Planner app if they don’t appear in the search results — as long as the travel matches the reservation and is covered by the pass? Will manually adding these trips ensure I’m compliant with the pass usage rules and protected from any penalties while traveling? I am booking a trip from Granada to Madrid but would like to stopover for a few hours in Cordova to sight see and have a meal.

I have a question about making seat reservations using the Eurail Pass. I’ll be traveling around Christmas and plan to take the train from Cologne to Strasbourg on December 24. As I understand, seat reservations can usually be made through the Rail Planner app or the Eurail website. However, the app hasn’t been updated yet — it currently only allows bookings up to December 13. I noticed that last year, the app was updated around mid to late November, so I’m wondering if I should just wait for it to update this time. Will the trains be likely to sell out if I wait? I also checked on the DB (Deutsche Bahn) website. The train from Cologne Hbf to Mannheim Hbf (ICE 515) allows seat reservations as normal, but the connection from Mannheim Hbf to Strasbourg (ICE 9590) cannot be reserved — it says “subject to compulsory reservation.” Since this will be on Christmas Eve, I’m worried there might be a lot of people traveling. Should I wait for the Rail Planner app to update, or should I look for

Hi everyone! I bought a flexi trip Eurail pass for myself and family back in September hoping to get organised and book rail journeys. Our first one will be Munich-Salzburg but there are no journeys available when I search trips for the 14th December? I am reading everywhere they should show up 3-6 months prior but 2 months before now and the app isnt showing them- is there a reason for this? Is there another app i can use the Eurail tickets on as Im starting to feel it was a waste of money and its used up a heap of my time already trying to figure out how to use the passes :/ 

I purchased two first class passes from eurail. I was trying to book the below journey from SJ official website. When I try to book the tickets, only the chair car and couchette prices are reduced (~100-500 KR) but the private sleeping compartment is still the same price (7000 kr for each leg, 2 adults). The eurail pass mentions that private first and second class private cabin are included and seat reservation is around 70 euro but I see only the total price. Hello,I’ll be travelling around Sweden this Easter. This will include a ride from Sundsvall to Gävle, where I’m looking to travel with X-Tåget.In Rail Planner, it says that the 08:41 service with X-Tåget from Sundsvall to Gävle on 8 April is “not in pass network”. I decided to check this directly with the provider so I emailed X-Trafik, who runs this service, and their Customer Service department confirmed by email that they do in fact accept Interrail on X-Tåget.I’m a bit puzzled why the app says “not in pass network” but I’m letting you know now in case you want to update this for a future app upgrade.Question: Am I right to assume that if I want to travel on the X-Tåget with my interrail pass, I’ll simply have to add this journey as a manual entry?Thanks in advance for your help.

When I write my card details and proceed to payment, it says error. When I try paying with Apple Pay, it doesn’t accept either of my cards, and I have all the card types that are considered accepted.   

I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this issue. I purchased a Ticket/Reservation for a double sleeper unit with a shower and WC on the Nightjet NJ461 Amsterdam to Munich on 12/09/2025. It came to my attention that OBB is charging the same amount for reservations/tickets whether or not you use your EURAIL passes for the Ticket portion of the travel that is supposed to be giving a discount for the travel portion. In 2 instances the same price was to be charged whether I provided information that I had a Eurail pass or not. Both ticket prices are the same for 2 different dates of service,  Two of these reservations show that I was getting a EURAIL discount, however there was no actual discount given. One set of these reservations I did in incognito mode just in case the OBB app was detecting my computer IP address but shows the same result €679,80 and in the other case €739,80. I contacted OBB to find out how this could be happening but given it’s a weekend I haven’t heard back from

We are currently booking our trains from 15 december.  The eurail planner doesnt currently list the trains so we have booked  our reservation directly with OBB and Leo Express but obviouslynot paid for tickets On the Eurail apP, do we have the assign the travel days?  Do we enter manually or have to wait until they show?   What happens when someone asks us to see the tickets? We just wanted to lock in the seats and trains as far in advance as we could  

I bought two eurail globzl passes. One for myself and one for my partner it has linked to my email address but when he tries to log in with the password number and his email it doesnt work. can i reassign his pass to his email? graeme

Hi all, first time rail pass user and having some trouble with the tech. I am trying to book a train from Brussels to Lyon on the 15th December. The journey I want is available on TGV but not showing on RailApp. There are journeys available on RailApp up to the 13th December but nothing after that and it’s been that way for weeks. I’m having similar problems with the other journeys I want to book later in my trip. I’ve tried the eurail website and all of the alternative third parties it suggests with no joy. I also find that when I move from rail app to the eurail website, my pass and other reservations are missing. It all feels very clunky and frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,I want to reserve the bicycle place in AVE train for traveling between Barcelona and Madrid on the 26 January. According to Renfe website, this is mandatory: “Keep in mind that you must add the Bicycle Add-on when you buy your AVE and Larga Distancia (long distance high-speed) tickets if the bicycle exceeds the maximum hand luggage dimensions, it is free! “https://www.renfe.com/es/en/travel/informacion-util/luggage/bicycles-and-kick-scooters-_non-electric_I already booked my seats from the interrail website, but the option to book the bicycle place was not present.On renfe website, I did not find a way to only book the bicycle place without buying a ticket...Anyone know how to book the bicycle space without buying a passenger ticket?Or do you have experience of taking AVE train without a reservation for bicycle or special luggage? did you managed to get in ?Thanks in advance :)
