Get ready to travel

Hello! I’m planning my first Interrail journey. Firstly I want to go from Kutno, Poland (my residence country) to Munich, Germany. I’d like to use this connection:IC 5420 Hutnik from Kutno (18:50) to Czechowice-Dziedzice (23:23)IC 407 Chopin from Czechowice-Dziedzice (00:07) to Munich (10:24)If I will add in app that I virtually “entered” the Chopin train in Oświęcim (23:45), one station earlier, would it count that I used only one travel day (outbound from my residence country)? Or the train staff will see that this change is not possible and will give me a fine? Thanks for your replies.

Hi everyone, we have a connection to make between a Paris-Mannheim train and a Mannheim-Berlin train. We can either choose a 16 minutes connection or a 1h and 15 minutes. The platforms are right next to each other so 16 minutes should be fine but I'm not sure to trust the French train company to arrive to Mannheim on time. Seats reservation for Mannheim-Berlin is not mandatory (neither recommended). In case we book seats for the first connection but miss it, would we easily get on the next train? Thanks for your help, Lou-Anne

I have a country pass for Austria. When I create a new trip linked to my pass (not activated yet), I thought the app would let me know if my pass is not valid in parts of the trip. However, it doesn’t show anything, even if I add a trip completely outside of Austria, eg from Paris to Barcelona.Therefore, and as I was unable to find clear information about this:If I travel on the Railjet from Austria to Bratislava, is the ticket valid to Bratislava, or do I need an additional ticket from Vienna to Bratislava?

Ola. We are planning a trip for November - December 2025 to Norway, and we are inspired by the proposed trip "Norway in winter", passing through Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Bodo. But using the planner it is impossible to visualize the journeys... for example Oslo-Bergen or Bergen-Bodo... Can anyone tell me why? and are there any train connection problems? because on the Norwegian site it seems that many journeys are replaced by buses.And final question: is it a good idea to plan “Norway in Winter” for this end of the year?Thank you very much in advance for the answers.  

Hey, in august i will be interrailing for the 1st time with 2 other friends, i was making the seat reservations until I stopped because I didn't know how to continue A train according to Interrail requires seat reservations, but they're no longer available on the Interrail website, so I go to the site listed under "more information" -> the Czech site.However, the site doesn't have this train (perhaps because Interrail doesn't support this organization, so it doesn't cover the train?).The Czech site (where seat reservations must be made) shows a train from 3:16 PM to 7:23 PM with train number EC 177. While Interrail shows a train from 2:47 PM to 7:23 PM with the same train number.- Both stations and dates are the same.How is this possible? And how am I supposed to make seat reservations? Just on the Czech website? Since they're the same train numbers, are they thereby also the same trains? i hope i made my story clear bye

I'm trying to plan on the app a journey from Verona to sillian , in osttirol (austria). The shortest way is through the italian Pustertal (Bressanone/ Fortezza/ Brunico/ San candido/ sillian). The app apparently ignores this way and shows only a way trough innsbruck and woergl that takes much more time (+ 1 day).Anyone knows why?Thank you very much

Buongiorno,un mese fa abbiamo fatto la prenotazione (purtroppo solo cartacea!) per un treno Eurocity Milano - Friburgo. Il biglietto pare fermo a Bologna e non ci è ancora arrivato !! Cosa possiamo fare? Come procedere?Grazie

Hi, I just saw this in the FAQs. We live in Bristol in the UK. Does this mean on my outbound trip we can travel from Bristol to London to Amsterdam (our first trip) but on our way home we can only travel from Paris to London (our last trip) and have to fund our travel from London to Bristol ourselves?  Your outbound journey can be used to travel from any location in your country of residence. Your inbound journey can be used to travel back to your country of residence. 

I’m an Interrail newbie. I have reserved tickets from London to Strasbourg, but it says no reservations are needed for the rest of the journey to Basel. When I try to book it, it says You’re ready to board. So how do we get tickets? Do we have to go out to the ticket desk and show our passes to get tickets? Or do we just get off the train from Paris and get on the one to Basel without having any tickets? And when we have other journeys where no reservations are required (eg Basel-Chur), do we just go to the ticket counter and show our passes, and they will issue us tickets? Sorry, all basic stuff I know, but I can’t find the info on the website. Thanks!

Hi Community,I'm still totally blown away by the Interrail offer - I actually didn't know that this offer was also available for adults and families.Our children have wanted a vacation in Spain for a long time, but I'm incredibly scared of flying, so it hasn't been an option until now. Now the idea of traveling by train came up.The route would be from Frankfurt (Main)/Germany to Barcelona (Blanes), departing on October 3. Two days there, two days back (October 11), we could use the 4-day Global Pass for that, right?When I was a child, I traveled to Spain with my parents in a sleeping car - that doesn't exist anymore, does it? With children, an overnight train connection would of course be ideal.Has anyone done this trip before and is Interrail travel really as straightforward as it seems?That would be fantastic. Hello!If travelling from Beauvais to Paris on a Sunday in August (31st), would you advise booking the train ahead of time or is it okay to just turn up on the day and sort the ticket there and then (either with or without a rail pass)?Thanks so much!

I have a 5 days pass in one month, and how does it count?Like in hours? does it mean i can travel 120 hours in one month? Or like 5 whole days? Does it matter if it's less than 120 hours, but it spans five days? I don't travel the whole time, so does it count as a whole day anyway? If i travel in the morning, til the afternoon like 5pm, does it mean that i have already used up one day, or only those hours I had just been on the way? Thank you for your answers.

Later this year I will be going from Switzerland to Italy on a relatively flexible schedule.  Because of handy clock face times I can spend shorter or longer times in the connecting city.But . . . reservations are mandatory on the Zurich-Milan and Milan-Rome legs . . . and this somewhat takes away from the flexibility.For example, I arrive into Zurich at (say) 09:05 and should be able to get the next train to Milan at (say) 09:25.  The same goes for the second leg - I get into Milan at (say) 12:30 and should be able to get the 12:50 to Rome.  Those specific times are made up, but the 20-25 minute connections are more or less accurate.Because I have to buy reservations, I either have to gamble on my 1st train arriving on schedule or book the train an hour later.  The same goes for the 2nd train.  I can gamble on the connection or book the train an hour later.Short version - if I reserve the short connections and miss one because of a delay is it possible to be rebooked on the next train

Hello, I noticed from the Interail rewards that there is access to some of the OBB lounges.  The one I’m interested in using is at Innsbruck as our train is cancelled and a bus replacement service is in place.  That’s all good but there is an hours wait and just wanted confirmation that we can use the lounge even if we don’t have an OBB ticket.  Has anyone used it with just the Interail/Eurail pass? Can I exchange my 5-day interrail ticket for a 4-day interrail ticket? And if I exchange it, will I lose all my reservations? 

Hi, everyone! I’m about to leave for Austria for a 6-day vacation and since I want to make sure to do everything right I was wondering: if all the trains I have to take have the green “reservation is not needed” label does that mean that the order confirmation is proof enough for the conductor? Or am I missing something? I don’t seem to be able to find any bar code or similar.Thanks!

Two people with 2nd class Interrail global passes want to travel on a SJ night train.Among the sleeper options shown on the SJ website, some are referred to as 2nd class and some others as 1st class (e.g. a private sleeper compartment for two people).After inserting both passes’ codes, any option seems to be bookable, both 2nd and 1st class.Replies given in a previous topic stated that even 2nd class pass holders were entitled to book a private compartment, but it was shown as 2nd class in that case.I just want to make sure that 2nd class pass holders are entitled to book a private compartment on SJ night trains when it is classified as 1st class.    

I’ve just bought 4 passes for my family to travel to UK, Germany, Austria, Italy and France for xmas.  How far in advance can we book tickets?  they already seem to be available on the countries train websites but note on Eurail?

Hi! I hope to travel by Glacier Express from Zermatt to St. Moritz on 12 SEP (2nd class pass).I realized that there are no left seats for this day, whereas for next days of July there is plenty, sometimes 2-3, sometimes even 15 or more. That’s kind of weird. Do you know any real answers why is that? Is the Glacier Express team releasing seats week by week or what? July should be more demanding month than the middle of September. Is there any real chance of catching a reservation for my travel day in September? What do you think? I know that I can travel whole route using regional trains without reservations (that’s my only altrenative), but I need to get to Tirano and the last train departs St. Mortiz by 16:48, so I'm more inclined to take the Glacier Express and avoid stressful transfers on regional trains. Many thanks for any help.Mateusz,  17/07/2025 24/07/202512/09/2025 - my travel day 

Hi, I have planned a two-week trip to Northern Italy from Paris starting tomorrow. However, I have a problem with my last train reservation, to return from Milan to Paris, on the 28th of July. Indeed,  I can’t achieve the seat booking because, as it is written on the app, “the route is expected to be added to the network in mid-summer”. I thought the end of July was at least mid-summer… May my reservation be available for this day ?

Hello! I am travelling from Barcelona Sants to Marseille St Charles on the 11th of July. There is only 1 direct train that leaves at 4:34pm. Today my partner and I went to the Barcelona Sants station to book seat reservations. The lady booked our reservations for us but afterwards we realised she booked us first class seat reservations. As we have a 3 month Eurrail pass that is only second class, we went back to check if this was correct. We spoke to the original lady and another person who spoke more English who assured us that it didn’t matter and that second class reservations were sold out anyway. if we travel using the second class pass and the first class seat reservations, will we be fined for travelling without a valid ticket? We want to do the right thing but are not sure as the staff we spoke to seem to say it will be fine but everything I have read online says otherwise.
