Get ready to travel

We are travelling from Basel to Cologne on August 8. The original plan was EC6 direct from Interlaken, but due to trackwork in Switzerland that train has been cancelled for some period of time.  We therefore booked and reserved First class seats to travel from Basel via Frankfurt (will get to Basel on whatever service we can). In the last few days DB have cancelled the Basel-Frankfurt train, and replaced it with a direct Basel-Colgone service. The good news it is an hour faster. But I am now trying to reserve seats for the replacement train, but bahn.de comes up with “No seat reservation possible”. It seems unlikely that the train is fully booked. The whole reason for travelling this route was the journey alongside the Rhine with seats on the right-hand river side of the train (which we had obtained on the connection from Frankfurt)Does anybody know whether this train, newly added to the schedule, is likely to open for seat reservations, or will it simply be pot luck?

I have spent a lot of time on the Deutsche Bahn* website looking for such a schedule. I came up with the following one: Valence Ville 08:36 Lyon Part Dieu 09:48 dep. Lyon 11:18Paris Bercy 16:25dep. P. Nord .18:28Lille Flandres 20:51 But on checking it now on DB, I can no longer find the 11:18 from Lyon PD for May 22 or 23, when I want to travel. On an arbitrary date such as April 27, however, it is shown. Can someone please explain this?*There is a subtext here,  Neiher SNCF-Connect nor the computers in French stations offer such a journey without using TGVs. I will post this problem separately as a Conversation.

On the 23/7-2024 I will travel from Denmark, through Germany to Pau in southern France. An part of this journey will go from SW Germany to Paris. This could be ICE 9575 from Stuttgart (14:52) via Strasbourg to Paris Est (18:16). But I could also cross the border with a regional train (no reservation) and catch ICE 9575 in Strasbourg (at 16:31). This is often cheaper to cross the border with at regional train. But not on this one…If I book reservations through Raileurope.com, the train from Stuttgart to Paris costs €18. But the same train from Strasbourg to Paris costs €20. It is only €2, but it makes me wonder: Why is a longer journey cheaper than a shorter journey on the exact same train? Palle Dam    

How i can reservation? Is it better to do each separately? Because it says that the ticket is only valid to Verona 

I am trying to see if I can travel overnight from Kraków Poland, returning west, Germany or other since since it is such a long journey?Thank you for any help! 

hi, I want to go from Wroclaw to Venice, and then take the train to Silicia to take a ferry to the island, and then return home. Do you have any thoughts on the layout? I’m thinking of going to Verona, spending the night there, going to see Venice in the morning, and either in the evening or the next day I’ll go to Silicia. The problem is that I have 3 out of 4 days left on the pass which makes everything even more complicated. 

Wir wollen von Österreich nach Polen mit dem Zug und das Fahrrad mitnehmen. Wir können aber weder auf der ÖBB noch auf der Polnischen Seite ein Ticket mit Fahrradmitnahme buchen. Hat hier wer Erfahrungen wie wir das buchen können. Hätten  auch vor uns ein Global Ticket zu kaufen. Danke

Hello!I’m going to Italy with my aunt. I’m in Switzerland, and she lives in France. She’s coming to Switzerland by plane on Monday 29 April. We’re starting our trip from Switzerland, Wednesday 8 May. I bought her a global senior pass for 4 days.My question is: Can she use her Interrail after landing in Geneva on Monday and coming to Lausanne (so it’ll be her 1st day with her pass).  And then, two days later, we’ll go to Napoli, Italy. (2nd day of her pass).  We’ll leave Napoli Sunday 12 May (3rd day of her pass).  And she’ll take her plane back to France on Monday, 13 May. So she’ll take again the train from Lausanne to Geneva, which are again 2 cities in Switzerland (4th day of pass?).➡️ Is it okay to use her 4 days of global pass like this ?Or does she need to buy the round trip train tickets for Geneva-Lausanne ?I asked 3 different people at the train station, but they gave me 3 different answers… So it’s why I’m coming to this wonderful community to hopefully get the right answer ✌

Hello Everyone! Please excuse some of my dumb questions that I may be asking as I am completely new to this and have been doing some research on the Eurail the past few days and some features on the website.  I am planning my honeymoon and look forward to visiting a country I really only could have dreamed about ever doing while growing up. We are planning to visit all of the places we read about growing up and have seen all over. We are flying into Naples and then going to Sorrento, then to Rome→ Venice→ Lake Como → Milan to go back to America.  I understand I need to buy a pass and then add on reservations but when I fill out the “plan a trip” it suggests I pick up for 4 days. I was wondering really how many days we actually needed, and what may be our best cost based option.  I was also wondering does the Eurail only include the bullet trains or does it include local? If it does do local can I do 2 train trips for 1 day of travel?  If it does do local, would I need 1 for Naples to S

It’s +8 degrees in my Legnica now, I want to go to Italy! Where do you think is the best place to go and where is it safe? Venice is a MUST! And then Rome or go to the very bottom of Italy, where it is very warm and atmospheric.

Hi all, I am looking for help. My partner and I booked a 2-month eurail pass but were lazy in reserving seats for our upcoming trip. We finally got around to it and are apparently unable to reserve seats for a London to Amsterdam trip next week as well as an Amsterdam to Paris trip the week after. If anyone has any tips or options onto how we are able to reserve a couple of seats it would be much appreciated. Is it possible to reserve seats at the station on the day? Any other tips would be very useful! Thank you

I am traveling early next month to 4 countries in 11 days. Starting from London to Brussels/Belgium for 2 1/2 days. We would spend a day in Brussels and explore Antwerp, Gent and or Brugge in a day. We would travel to Amsterdam for 2 days. We would then travel from Amsterdam to Cologne for 2 days. We would travel to Paris for two days and return to London. I need help with determining the pass, using regional train I believe in Belgium and Amsterdam. I’m looking at getting the 5 day adult pass for $350 as I will need to travel from London, Amsterdam, Cologne, Paris and back to London. In addition to the regional local trains I believe is about $12 each trip and seat reservations that vary. Please advise

Hi to all,I am trying to arrange seat reservations for the following two connections:From Madrid - Puerta de Atocha (Spain) to Perpignan (France) on the 3.6.24 at 1.25pm From Marseilles at Charles (France) to Barcelona - Santa (Spain) on the 21.6.24 at 8.04am  I have done a number of reservations without any issues but these two won’t work :(Three travelers and we all have the Global Eurail pass.Any suggestions please.Many thanks, Christine 

Hi all! This summer I will go on a trip to Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria. Most of the trip seems to go quite smooth, except the part between Budapest/Hungary and Cluj-Napoca (which, according to my own logic, would be the most logical way to enter Romania from the west). By train this takes more than 10 hours. Is there anyone here with experience in going to Romania, and perhaps knows a better route to access the country? Maybe not through Cluj at all, but another city? Thanks in advance!Also off topic, but if you can recommend me a beautiful natural area in Romania please let me know, I’m already planning to go to the Fagaras Mountains and Danube Delta.Cheers,Willem

I have been trying to book ferries for the Greek islands as I have a 4 days 1 month ferry pass. Using either of the two domestic ferry companies connected to this pass I can’t seem to find any routes to or from Milos. Milos doesn’t even come up as an available port when I type it in the ferry schedule finder. Milos is listed as a destination on Eurail, how do I book ferries to and from Milos?

Trying to book reservation from Munich to Florence on May 30th.  It appears there is not a 2 berth available, but 4 berth is.  I get everything typed in including discount (eurail global) and it kicks me off.  Thoughts?

I want to travel from Barcelona to Paris and vice versa in June 24, but there is no way to make seat reservations. I used to buy them on the train station in Barcelona, but it seems SNCF doesn’t sell their seat reservations for Interrail in Spain anymore(or any other country it seems, only on trainstations in France). I looked on the SNCF website but I cannot find a way to only make a seat reservations. How can I book my seats? Thanks!

Hi,  We’re looking to travel to Italy/ Sicily Oct 2025 for 2 weeks. Our children will be 10,7,4&2. I would like to do some main tourist bits but would love to explore local towns / beaches, mozzarella and pizza and local food for the kids!  Does anyone know where to fly to begin our adventures. Also recommend any local towns and all the above? 👆we are on a budget, we want to do it as cheap as we can but also the best experience for the kids!  love to read your replies! 🩷

I am a New Zealander with a Eurail pass and my travelling companion is Danish with an interail pass.i am trying to reserve seats for us both on trains in  France, Spain and Portugal but finding it very difficult.can someone please give me step by step instructions so that we are both booked on the same train and seated together.thanks so much in advance!

I’ve been planning on going through Rail Europe to make seat reservations for my trains involving France. I’m going from London to Toulouse and Toulouse to Zurich. I did find someone saying that their tickets/reservations from Rail Europe weren’t showing up in the system at the train station, and I hadn’t come across people saying this was an issue till now. I know everyone’s experience is different, but I am doing this solo so I’m trying my best to avoid hiccups. Which, one primarily is going through the official train operators and avoiding third parties. Does Rail Europe have any risks that come with making reservations with them rather than an official train operator? If I can, should I just make the reservations through b-Europe (I’m fine with the extra cost)? Also, some of the seat reservations I'm getting are through OBB even though they're not the official train operator for that train (SBB, DB, Trenitalia, etc.), are there any risks with that or will I be okay since it's still

Hello, I reside in the Dominican Republic. I have a Eurail pass, for my wife and I. We want to travel during the month of July 2024 from Madrid to Barcelona, ​​and from Barcelona to Paris. I must purchase both routes with Renfe. They tell me on the phone line that I must purchase them in person at the Station because I have the Eurail pass. Could you tell me if this information is correct? And, if so, how much would be the discount that Renfe would give me?

Hi, I am planning our trip to Europe and need some guidance with booking times. I’ve purchased two Eurail passes and worked out, as best I can, the trips I need to make. Where there are many trains each day, I have chosen the one that is most likely to be suitable.
