Get ready to travel

Our route for our planned 7 day pass is all worked out.  3 days travelling out.  3 days travelling back and one day spare to be used at some point during our holiday.I read all the time about only activating your pass at the last minute in case you forget that it is already activated and problems arise and dates need changing.  I am more exercised about getting used to using the pass and learning in advance about its ins and outs.  I would much prefer, therefore, activating the pass early on, inputting all the journeys and and checking that I am totally confindent in using it.    I would then deactivate it and activate again much closer to our departure date.Are there any things to be careful about, if I do this?  Is there a reason why this might not be a good idea? Peter

Hello!I have interrailglobal 5 days within one month. My home country I travel from is Sweden and arrived to Germany. Now going back to Sweden (total used 2 days of travel). Do you know if I can travel again from same desitantion I started travel (Sweden) to another countries with remaining 3 days of travel and use then last day of travel to arrive back to sweden again? 

HiI got Schengen VISA for France starting 18/05. I am residence of UK and holds BRP so would go for Interrail Global 2nd class Pass. Now, to best utilize my first day (18/05) in Paris, I am planning to start from Edinburgh on 17/05 and would like to take night train at 19:58   from Edinburgh, which will reach London King Cross at night 1.05 AM. I would then take EuroStar morning train from London St Pancras at 6.30 for Paris.Could you please help answer.If this night journey from Edinburgh to Paris will count as 1-day or 2-day travel for Interrail Pass? Does ‘7 pm rule’ still valid? Would appreciate, if one can suggest how to best utilize my first day and Interrail pass, Can I make reservation on 1st class of Eurostar and in Bernina express (for Switzerland) , if I am holding 2nd class interrail pass?TIARegards

Hi!My mom and I would like to plan our interrail trip to the UK with the Global Pass, but before we book everything, we would like to know: If we book a seat reservation (which counts as a travel day from the Global Pass) but then cancel it later (because we changed our minds, got sick or something else), can we still use the same day from the Global Pass to make a new reservation? Apologies if this question is silly.  I am learning about the Interrail system before I have my pass and so things may be obvious once I get it. I see people suggest not to put a train into your pass from your trip folder until just before you get on the train.   That is not the sort of person I am.  I don’t like to do things in a rush.When I set off on my journey I will be travelling from my local town to London and then on Eurostar.  There are several trains an hour from my local station:  let’s say 9:15, 9:30 9:45.    No reservations are required.    Suppose I put the 9:30 train onto my pass.   However I arrive early and can get on the 9:15.  Do I have to delete the 9:30 from my pass and replace it with the 9:15 or does this not matter?Peter

Hello everyone,I am planning a trip to Scandinavia and I would like my first travel day to start in Rennes (Brittany, France) and end in Stockholm. This seems possible thanks to the night train Hamburg-Stockholm.There are different routes to reach Hamburg. The quickest one seems through Paris and Cologne. The good point is that there are nearly hourly Cologne-Hamburg trains so if I get delayed in Paris, I can hope to catch up and be on time in Hamburg. The drawback is the high reservation fee on the Eurostar to Cologne : 32 € (compared to 42 € for a full ticket, checked today!). What would be your advice ? There are alternative routes through Brussels, Mannheim or Karlsruhe. They seem at first glance to take more time. I read about the two Hamburg-Stockholm night trains. Which one have you best experienced ? On the practical point of view, the Snälltåget leaves later, 23h59 (within same travel day I understand ?) so that may be safer. Hi,We are 2 adults and 1 10 year old kid travelling to Paris, Switzerland and Italy. I am traveling to France & Spain in April (Aix to Barcelona and then to Lyon).  Would like to make reservations for the AVE International (the high-speed direct) trains that seem to be run only by Renfe now (when it used to be a France/Spain collaboration).  After much searching & frustration, I have learned that the reservations can only be made at a train station, and that it has to be a train station in Spain??  Can someone provide me with details of what that entails?Do all pass holders have to be in person at the train station to make reservations (there will be four of us)?  I ask because I am wondering if one of the pass holders (who is currently already in Aix) could make the reservations for all of us at the Aix TGV station?  (though clearly this station is in France not Spain, so question 2 below:) Some places it seems to say that reservations can only be made at Spain stations.  But if that’s the case, is it not possible to make a reservation to get from France to Sp

I live in Cornwall Uk and will be traveling to France via the Eurostar from London to Paris. Below is an outline of the intended travel days: Day 1: Cornwall → London → ParisDay 2: Paris → LyonDay 3: Lyon → MontpellierDay 4: Montpellier → AvignonDay 5: Avignon → NiceDay 6: Nice → Paris → London → Cornwall My question essentially is whether I am able to make these multiple connections within my home country (Cornwall → London → Paris and Nice → Paris → London → Cornwall) on the global pass as the inbound/outbound days or would I need to but separate train tickets for the Cornwall → London and London → Cornwall sections?  Thank you in advance!

Hi Guys,I like visit Mont St Michel.How should I travel and ensure I have book all tickets for both way? I had check and given the following schedule :Paris Montparnasse 1 Et2 to Villedieu Les Poeles   - this by by train. And seats are able to be book.Transfer by Bus 36871 From Villedieu Les Poeles to Le Mont Michel . My questions is how do i book the bus tickets in advance so that I’m sure of having a seat in the bus? CAn the Europass by use for the bus transfer?  

I am thinking of buying a eurail pass.  It will certainly be cheaper than paying for the journeys I have planned through normal booking methods.  However I will want seat reservations on all my journeys (in France and Italy) and I would not want to proceed with the purchase of a Eurail pass if this was not guaranteed,  I am too early to book seats on the actual journeys planned.  However I thought I would test out the system by seeing if it is possible to book up seats on certain journeys but just stopping short of the paying up stage.  It seems, however, that I cannot test out the reservation system until I have paid for a pass.  And I am not prepared to pay for the pass until I have tested the reservation system.  Catch 22!!   Any suggestions how I might get round this problem? Peter

Hi everyone!I am wanting to book a seat reservation on a Deutsche Bahn Amsterdam to Berlin on June 5th 2024. I want to save some money and do it directly through their wesbite. Orginally, when I searched the site, I was looking at tickets (that also included reservations) and they were available to purchase, but consdering I have a eurrail pass, I want to use that as my ticket and only purchase the seat reservation.I later found that there is a separate seat reservation search engine, to which I put in my details and was met with the following: As you can see, none of the trains are showing any price info or the option to proceed with a seat reservation. Does anyone know why this is the case? Especially when tickets (bundled with a seat reservation) are available for purchase on the same train?Thanks!

When a night train has this information (2nd class - IRT 2 classe) it’s because doesnt’t have a place to sleep on the reservation? Thank you!​​​​Another question, when I’m looking for the connections in romenia, it appears this (but it’s not possible to make the reservation) or that “Prices unavailable No price results were found. Pass holder reservations may be sold out for this connection, but there are other ways to check for available seats—more info below our timetable.”, what can I do in order to plan my trip in romenia, any advices? 

I have been trying to book a seat reservation with a Eurail pass from Domodossola (Italy) to Basel on the direct Eurocity. This train starts in Milan.Eurail says no seat reservation available Rail Europe says need to book at the stationWe need to get to Basel in tome to catch train to Paris and can do this on regional trains without passes but it means an early start from our base at Lake Maggoire (Verbania-Palanza) plus multiple changes.I see there was a post 2 years ago about not being able to reserve this Eurocity but that may now be resolved?Of course it might just be that there are no seats left as  it is early June we need to book.Any suggestions if a reservation is possible and how to get one? Should we just try at a station once we are in Europe? 

Hi- We are US citizens and will be traveling with 3 kids this summer. The youngest is 6. We will be going from Berlin to Prague on June 28 and then Prague to Munich on July 2. Do we need the 4 day euro rail pass or can I just book each way with a direct ticket? If so, how would I book those tickets? We will take the train from Berlin to Prague but is it easier to fly from Prague to Munich? That train ride seems a little too long for the kids. Is the Prague airport easy to navigate? Any advice appreciated. 

Hello, I will be traveling from Florence to Zurich.  Then Zurich to Paris, and finally from Paris to Barcelona the week of May 4, 2024.  Can anyone tell me the best way to purchase tickets on Eurail?  Do I need a global pass?  It seems a bit expensive.

I am a holder of a 1st class global pass. Unfortunately all 1st class seats are fully booked. NowI would like to book a 2nd class seat.On Eurostar trains, the system shows that reservations are available for a 2n class price. But when I click, it shows no seats available. On dates where 1st class is available, I can chose bothI guess, the system shows only options for 1st class. How can I tune that I also can book 2nd class when 1st class is not available on this train.(Yes, I know that I can sit in 2nd class with a first class ticket). I just can’t figure it out in the online reservation tool

Hi,      We are travelling from London to Paris to Ben to Zurich. I think a 7 day EURAIL pass would be sufficient as we are leaving from London to Paris on 8/19/24 and our from there going to Bern and from Bern to Zurich on 8/25/23. Does the Eurail pass work within Paris or Bern or Zurich or can this only be used for travel between these cities ? Is it better to just get a 7 day pass oe buy individual tickets from each of these cities (London to Paris, Paris to Bern and Bern to Zurich) ? Thank you!

I am planning a travel and see on OBB the night train München Hbf › Utrecht Centraal for the 16th of June. Why the same train is not present in the interrail plan your trip portal?Can I be sure the train is possible with the pass even if not present in the interrail portal?Also, how can I be sure a train is included in the pass? Thanks!Alessio

We’re trying to book a seat reservation for our trip from amsterdam to morges but we get the message “Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later or find another connection. This connection will be removed from your cart.” We know it’s not the wifi so we’d like to know what the problem is.

I seem to recall reading about a requirement somewhere to go online every X days when using a Eurail passes.  Is this correct or am I just confused?
