Our October Route: The Bergen Railway, chosen by me! Your community manager, Sarah. 
October is a beautiful time to ride the Bergen Railway, or Bergensbanen, across Norway. My husband and I took the journey in October 2023, and it is still one of our favourite trips together.
We made our way north from the Netherlands, through Denmark, and took the overnight ferry to Bergen. We began our journey across Norway on the Bergen Railway. While travellers often do the route in a single day, we decided to take our time and spend a few nights along the way.
Our first night was in Flåm, where we took the famous Flåm Railway down to the fjord. One of our favourite little moments happened when we saw a French family getting ready to go from the sauna straight into the freezing fjord. We heard them count, 'un, deux, trois,' all together. We waited for the big splash, but only one person actually jumped in. We couldn't help but laugh. It was exactly the kind of small, unexpected moment that makes a trip memorable.
As we continued along the route, the autumn leaves gradually gave way to snow, and we arrived in Geilo surrounded by a completely different version of Norway. The next morning we continued our journey to Finse. The remote setting, the snow, and the fact that the village is only accessible by train gave the whole place a wonderfully isolated feeling.
From Finse, we continued east toward Oslo, completing our journey across Norway. Perhaps because it was just the two of us, with most of the trains nearly empty, and the autumn colours glowing outside the windows, this is our most treasured trip together."
