Remember last year’s Back to the Rails competition? We asked you to tell us about the Interrail trips that changed you, the moments you still think about and the people you’d love to share them with.

Your stories moved us, made us laugh, and had us planning our next trip! We loved reading every one of them. You told us about first trips taken at 51 and at 18, solo adventures that brought back confidence, journeys made for loved ones who couldn’t go, and plenty of missed connections that turned into the best stories. Thank you to everyone who shared a piece of their journey with us.

We’re excited to share that @Borcsi was chosen to go back to the rails. What we loved most about her story is that it started long before she ever boarded a train: she was inspired to follow the same route her parents travelled back in the ’90s. Same tracks, a new generation, and a whole new set of memories.

Her story is a reminder of something we see in this community all the time: Interrail connects generations. Passed down by grandparents, aunts, friends and fellow travellers, one person’s journey often becomes someone else’s dream.

Here’s the video that came out of it:

Did your parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles go Interrailing before you? Maybe you’ve passed the travel bug on to your own kids, or followed in the footsteps of a friend who came home with stories you couldn’t stop thinking about.

Tell us about the people who inspired your journey, or the ones you’ve inspired, in the comments below. Old photos, faded tickets and well-worn maps are more than welcome!
