Schedule reliability

I planned a trip from Helsinki, Finland to Ajaccio, Corsica and back between 2.-8. December 2026.

After October 20th, DB’s timetable service announced that the Stockholm–Hamburg connection was no longer available; instead, train 307 would terminate in Lund, Sweden, from where one could only continue using local trains. Since I needed to be in Hamburg by 10:00 PM, I immediately had to look for alternatives. The only way to reach Hamburg Central Station on time was to buy a ticket for a FlixBus route—Helsinki–Tallinn–Warsaw–Berlin–Hamburg—which cost me nearly 170 euros. However, yesterday, DB’s timetable service announced that everything is actually running as normal: train 307 from Stockholm to Hamburg is operating as planned and is scheduled to arrive at 9:57 PM. The only lesson I’ve learned from this is that you can’t rely on anything—and that this will also be my final Interrail trip, as I simply cannot afford this kind of experience.

DB don't operate this train. In such a case, only rely on what the operator tells you.

You didn't mention why you need to be in Hamburg by 22:00, but if it's to catch the 22:11 night train to Basel and Zurich, then I hope you have a plan B in case the connection fails.

You are right in both points, but first, the train Operator (Snalltaget) did not answer or their website did not work (I could not open the reservation, though I had the correct details and e-mail address); and the other point, to get to Hamburg in time, well, yes, but it costs 170 euros...

@Olli Heinonen If i remember correctly you can cancel Flixbus tickets for free if its more then 30 days until the planned travel date. (If you dont plan to take the bus anymore)

Yes, that’s correct, but you don’t get the refund as money, only as a voucher.
