I’ve just bought my pass but I won’t be travelling until August 2027. When should I link the pass to the app. I don’t want to activate the pass now.

You can add the pass in advance and do step 1 and 2 of the activation procedure.
Step 3 is the actual activation: choosing a start date and entering your passport number.
You can also test whether everything works, using a start date well in the future, and then cancel the pass activation again until the day you start your trip. Cancelling activation is possible as long as the validity period hasn't started.
